Nose: blueberry, meat, smoke, dried leaves, wet earth, spices Notes: It would be fair to conclude that the 1995 LT is still quite young and energetic and could probably survive another 10 years of cellaring before exiting it's prime drinking window. Nevertheless I was not impressed by this wine. The nose demonstrates the more heavy and darker aromas and the palate I feel is a bit out of balance. Putting price tag aside I still don't find much excitement in the wine and it is rather unfortunate. I think the wine is ready to consume now and is probably within its optimal drinking window. I can't help but feel a little disappointed. Drink: Now+ Rating: 90

Served in magnum. First off, all 3 bottles were sound and consistent. A gourmand wine. It’s showing its age. Red fruit spectrum with vosne spice, hawthorn and autumnal bouquet. No need to wait.

Last of 3 bottles all cellared in the same cellar. Again I'm stunned by this wine, still playful and quite young in its appearance, mutes itself in periods - but even from the start ready to play. The complex fruit is there, the lighter red fruit still lingering, finesse and long length - really long. The mineral footprint is stunning, I could have gone wrong blind here by far. But the balance, the length, the complexity all wrapped in elegance is beautiful.

Decanted off moderate amount of fine sediment. Consumed over the ensuing 3 hours. This was the second bottle from an acquisition circa 2006.
Medium-dark red with medium transparency. Aromatically displaying the tell-tale five spice, floral, and sweet red fruit elements I expect from DRC. On the palate, the peacock's tail effect is fully delivered. Iron, five spice, violet, rose, black truffle, some smoke, blackberry, cherry, and raspberry all make their appearance. At times, the palate shuts down to show only an austere spine, but a few minutes later it all comes back. That structural core seems a signature of 1995 and was present (more so) in the first bottle consumed 10 years ago. The finish here is long and ethereal when not shut down. This was a bottle caught in a very good moment and delivered a profound experience. Fantastic La Tache. Drink or hold.

A perfect bottle of this purchased on release. Still quite youthful and really improved after an hour in the glass. A very deep and intense Burgundy that's loaded with rich blue/cherry fruit and possesses superb depth and concentration. Yes, the finish is a bit dry in the nature of the vintage but that doesn't detract from what is otherwise a great wine in the making. There are beautiful Vosne spices on the finish and real complexity lurking underneath with notes of minerals, violets and smoked earth. A really good showing and it's best days are clearly ahead. Interestingly, it threw about as much sediment as a Bordeaux of similar age so I would recommend decanting this. At The Grill, NYC. 96+

La Tâche 1985-2010 Vertical NYC (Le Pavillon NYC): Similarly developed as 98, cooked fruits, tea notes. It is a little more structured however. There is a little too much (unintegrated) tannin on the palate and it dries out. Not as enjoyable as 96. 92-93.

My weakest La Tâche until now. Not balanced, lacks ripeness, tanins are slightly bitter. This bottle has been in my cellar for about 10 years and was from impeccable provenance and in very good condition. Although the wine is still enjoyable, its pedigree made it a very disappointing experience.

Den gang siterte jeg Britney Spears for å bidra til å beskrive denne vinen «Not a girl, not yet a woman, all I need is time ...»
Hva mer er det å vente på? 2 down, one to go…. Jeg tror ikke siste flaska er ei jeg glemmer i altfor mange år til.

LaTâche Lunch with a Ramonet Starter (Binkley's - Phoenix AZ): Served single blind alongside '98 LaTâche and 1993 RSV. More black vs red cherry with bold structure, slightly firm, but still very elegantly styled. This magnum of La Tâche had an exceptional 2.5" air gap below the cork. It is pictured on this page as the example bottle at the moment. There was the promising scent of roses upon opening, but that went away within 15 minutes. The wine is initially sweet, with candied strawberries and red fruits, but then it clenches up with astringency. What a shame. It is still drinkable, but very tired.

Weekend with Eddie - Part 1 (Marea, New York City): Very consistent with the last bottle drunk in 2014. Perfectly mature La Tache nose, concentrated yet delicate red fruits, raspberry, raspberry jelly, strawberry, strong stem that adds nicely complexity at this stage, Vosne spice, sous bois, light caramel and sautéed poricini. Perfectly integrated harmonious palate, quite silky, decadent caramel and raspberry essence driven palate impression, perfect amount of acidity, a hint of sweet tannins and lovely sweet Vosne spice and caramel driven finish. Neither the most profound nor the most concentrated La Tache yet it is so incredibly enjoyable, grand vin! Despite being totally ready to go, this will drink well for the next few decades, becoming more delicate and pure. The true beauty of La Tache and the glimpse of how it will show in a few decades can be found in the glass with only a few drops, so expressive and so decadent.

La Tache Dinner at Everest (Everest Chicago): Drank over 4 hours. Initially a little quiet on the nose with hints of soy, iron, spice and red fruit. Over time the nose opened and those notes became more pronounced and a minty streak appeared after about 2 hours. The palate was relatively mature with outstanding spice, red fruit and a cedar note. Elegant and full of understated complexity. Medium finish. In the last hour, the finish became more and more tannic.

Ruby colour with purple hints. Starts muted and needs time to show the best side of itself, yet it shows as a young wine all the evening. Nice red fruit, floral, hints of spices and some earthy elements. The mineral footprint is almost too much. Great fruit that put on more weight with time, acidity terrific and the finish is lang lasting - minutes!
The wine has only had one owner, been in a cool cellar all it's life, and from my point of view needs a more time. The structure and everything seems to be there - it just needs more time.

Decanted off medium amount of medium-fine sediment. Red-brown color with medium transparency. Heady aromas of strawberry, cherry, soy, anise, and allspice. The palate delivers an amazing effect of feminine red fruit character with a masculine mineral, iron, spice, and tannin core. The finish is medium-long. Regal and understated in what it delivers. This is quite a contrast to a young La Tache and was a real treat to be able to savor over the course of a meal. Delicious and engaging, but not profound. Drink or hold.

Dinner with Charles (Washington, D.C.): Medium, deeply saturated ruby with no hint of age. When I first smelled this after it was open for an hour, it was easy to appreciate the dizzying spicebox scents, but this quickly veered to black fruit and licorice, and then with more air, aromatically it reverted into a shell. Very solid feel, excellent acidity, slightly raspy feel and quite tannic at the end. Its evolution tonight leaves little doubt that this is too young by at least 5-8 years and probably is in a closed phase now. With its initial olfactory fireworks, there is likely much more to come, but on the other hand, I think it suffers from some of the clunkiness of the vintage, and I don't see it developing into one of those really texturally alluring great Burgundies. Probably a moot point for me, as I would be very surprised if I got another chance to drink this.

Dark red with opaque core. Scents of pudding and yoghurt. Marvellous intensity with power and precision, a great attack, sweet and concentrated, ripe fruit flavour cascading across the palate with notes of pine needles, spearmint, and bacon fat. There was also a strong cherry-flavour component, and the wine had brilliant structure and stuffing. Balanced and harmonious on the aftertaste. Delicious.

Perfectly harmonious palate, silky and polished, fully integrated acidity and tannins. Drinking beautifully.

DRC Superbowl (Phoenix, AZ): Gamey sauvage quality absent in all the other wines tasted, makes this unique. Still had the Vosne spice and rose petals, but the sauvage was dominant. I loved this, but it was polarizing.

Light Lumber in the High Country; 4/30/2009-5/2/2009: Interesting bottle. Not sure if it was just shut down tight, or won't turn out as well as expected, but it didn't show much personality. No bad notes at all, and a decent drink, but lets hope for more later.

Classically Burgundian, with a huge caramel nose and nice tannins, but not as "special" as the other DRCs we tasted (blind): '90/'95/'96 Richebourg/La Tache/RSVs (lucky us!).

Nose of earth, bacon, cherry. One of the best noses of the night, but didn't like the mouth- a sourness and lack of fruit.

G7 (Sea Saw, Scottsdale): Cherry and earth. Chalky. Flat with very little interesting character. Others like this much more than I. Disappointing.

Drank in Cabo. Where apparently this is pronounced La...TaCHAY. Think this bottle was slightly oxidized- a dark, somewhat cloudy, garnet color. Spicey nose of dark fruit , dried rose petals and some ferrous notes. A bit thin on the palate with dark fruit, spice, minerality. Medium finish.

Linden's La Tache Tasting (Bentley Hotel, London): Darkest and reddest so far. Compact on the nose, but intense. Gamey, savoury, fresh, nice grip. More agile and cooler than the 1996 and I prefer it

Delicious.

Visit to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (Burgundy, France): From barrel. Deep, dark and rich looking. Aromas of violets and new oak. Really quite balanced - lots of fruit and oak in the flavours. Powerfully structured. Extremely long finish. The wine will remain another 12-14 months barrels.
