Crimson in color. 14.2% ABV. Sublime nose of blue and black fruits, molten licorice and Whitman Sampler box. Rich, decadent and perfectly balanced. Warm, supple and very approachable. Currants, cassis liqueur, blueberries and chocolate on the palate. Nice length on the finish with gritty tannins. Better than a bottle a little over a year ago. Super Cabernet Sauvignon from an uneven vintage. Best over the next 2-3 years.

At opening on Friday night, this seemed like somewhat watery oaky juice. I managed to finish half a glass — it didn’t seem defective and certainly not over the hill, just very disjointed and oaky. I thought perhaps lots of air time would help, so I left the bottle uncorked all night on the counter, and recorked it Saturday morning. Saturday evening, I reopened it — hoping for a miraculous change. Though the oak had toned down somewhat and there was some dark fruit peeking through, it was still a lightweight with a watery mouthfeel. During the evening, the oak continued to recede a bit but it never became a particularly enjoyable wine. This was a recent auction purchase and I have one more, so I guess I should probably open that other one in the near future to see if this bottle was an anomaly.

Drinking window says it's time to open this and it was not wrong.
Had with some nice Peruvian takeout from a local restaurant. No decant, pour and drink.
Fruit, oak, and spice are predominant on the nose. More fruit and spice on the palate balanced with smooth tannins and a great long finish. As they say, "Drink Now!"

Purple in color. 14.2% ABV. Sublime nose of red and black fruits, licorice, scorched earth and chocolate. Medium to full bodied with nice acidity. Restrained, elegant and exceedingly approachable. Currants, cherry, cranberry and spice on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Delicious Cabernet Sauvignon but not necessarily what I expected. Serve this to that person in your life that says all Napa Cabernet tastes like a blueberry milkshake. Sometimes a bottle from an off vintage really delivers albeit in a surprising fashion. Best over the next 2-3 years.

With a to-go prime rib dinner from local fav Copper Hen on Christmas Eve. Splash decanted. The wine really started to show well in hour two out of the decanter. Classy medium weight Cab. Garnet coloring, tending towards darker hues. Red plum, touch of black pepper. Nice length on the finish. Double decanted about 1/4 of the bottle back and enjoyed a couple nights later. Still showed great, which gives me optimism on ageability of my 2nd bottle of this. Relative to an '09 of this which was massive and hot, this '11 was right in my strike zone.

Shared with friends, didn't focus as much on the wine as the conversation. Dropped into a decanter consumed over 4 hours. Really started hitting its stride around 1 hour mark. Black fruit and mocha; silky integrated tannins; medium+ finish with just a hint of oak. Pleasing!

A really good wine in an off vintage. Black fruit, spice, cedar, cassis and an herbal component on the nose and flavors. Not as full bodied as some years. Silky smooth tannin in the finish. Very good now. Not sure I would hold more than a few years.

Based on previous notes, I double decanted a few hours prior to consuming and drank over a two-hour period. Unusual nose, almost minty, and flat and one dimensional on the palate and finish. It never really improved :(

Poured 1/3 bottle on day 1 into a decanter. Immediate aroma was quarter pounder with cheese. After an hour it had flavors of bell pepper and lemon. Didn't improve much on day 2, and I was disappointed. I assumed it was the vintage. However, on day three it tasted like deep dark fruit. Restrained and dusty. Satisfying finish. Rating is based on the third day.

Medium body. Tart cherry, mint, green pepper. Medium acidity with some dusty tannins. Was a bit more tart than I like in the beginning for a cab but this mellowed out after a bit, yielding to the dusty finish. Interesting wine but disjointed.

Better than most 2011s but pretty typical of the cool year - noticeable vegetal flavor, but not overpowering. Well done for the year but still can’t overcome the cool growing season. No rush to drink remaining bottles, but no reason to wait.

Great bottle of wine and showing very well. The nose was really special with with a whiff of cocoa and dark fruits sort of a cross between Oakville and Rutherford. Dark juice with plenty of structure supporting soft resolved tannins. The personal wine is very enjoyable and is lighter than a lot of TRB hired efforts (Schrader, Outpost, GTS etc.) and so it is closer to Roundpond but easily stands above that wine. Nice finish with good acidity and was as good on the second day as the first. Go Get Some!

What a pleasant surprise from the 2011 Vintage. Popped and poured, and then enjoyed over about two hours. Not as "big" as other vintages, but plenty of dark fruit notes, plum, blackberry, cassis, and some subtle pepper notes (black not green). A touch of vanilla on the nose from the oak, but very little oak. Extremely smooth tannin and finish. A thoroughly enjoyable wine - in fact a wine that some "haters" of California Cab would enjoy.

Second of the three 11’s I have - this showed much better than the previous, tasted mid-2017.
Deep, cloudy opaque purple, light bodied for a cab. Meaty, red fruits and very light ground pepper on the nose. Bright and lively on the palate for a cab, which I found refreshing. Nice acidity with very minimal tannin - lots of macerated blue fruits but with some crunchy red fruited notes lingering.
Really enjoyed this go round and will likely try the one remaining bottle late 2019.

This is pretty ripe and sweet to me with not a lot of complexity but got better with some time open. Not complex and I guess this is because of the vintage five other ones are much better than this. Will given the other ‘11 3-5 hours before I drink.

TRB Night (Norcross, GA): Cloudy opaque core with brighter maroon rim; almost Pinot-like nose, spicy, obvious red fruit, juicy and enticing, red currant, ripe cherry liqueur, almost peppery; great texture, still youthful, dark cherry, silky tannin, deep, hardly any noticeable tannin, good acid and mid palate, candied red fruit; delicious though I may have called Pinot if tasted blind; very different than most TRBs I've had and sure the vintage had lots to do with it.

Found this in the secondary market at a really nice price and decided to give it a shot despite the difficult vintage - a pleasant surprise. Derived from the Corona and Pellet vineyards. Dark red fruit with a touch of blue - dark cherry, currants, and a little plum. Smooth mid-palate with decent depth but a little lighter than expected - although I probably expected too much in consideration of other vintages. Nice flavors of dark berries and a little spice. Solid finish but not overly long nor deep. Decanted for one hour and drank over another two. Not much improvement with time but appears to be at a nice drinking point. In all, one of the better bottles that I've had from the 2011 vintage for the money. In my opinion, at the upper end of Parker's 90 to 92 rating.

Opened this last minute and poured a glass. Little clove and vanilla in the aromatic but that's about it in terms of modern aromatics--they're both light and not intrusive, which I appreciate. This tastes like Cab, with red fruit, tobacco leaf and nothing modern getting in the way, like big oak or booze. This is instead more juicy, lightly rustic and pretty damn good.....finished later over dinner, this fleshed out some more, adding some plum and also light brushing of chocolate.. Terrific for what was a hard vintage.

Probably due to the cold wet year, this has more of a red fruited quality, some slight bell pepper and brambly notes. In a weird way, this shares some qualities with big, super-extracted, CA pinot. I don't necessarily say that is a bad way, but it seems atypical. The spicy oak notes are present, but well integrated and very complimentary to the overall profile. Likewise, the tannins are smooth and nicely integrated. I think this will hold for a few years, but this is probably at or near peak and I would opt to drink this sooner, rather than later.

Quite impressed with this. Have honestly been pretty down on 2011 in Napa, but this is the first one I've had in a while. Really on point. Not the depth or weight of the 2012s and 2013s, but a lovely wine. Currant. A hint of mint late in the finish. In a great spot.
Outperformed expectations. My only bottle of this.

Nose of cherry, plum, cassis, leather, mocha, mint and hints of blueberry. Prominent hit of dill on the palate that subsides with air to reveal cherry, mint, sweet spice and a blueberry note that comes forward after several hours. Light body for a Napa cab, lithe tannins and medium acidity. This is rich but in a light and complex sort of way. Hate that it was my last bottle, but it is drinking quite well right now.

PnP at first and then consumed over 5 hours. Started off with coconut & dill amidst red currant fruit and wet earth. After some hours, making way to notes of black cherry, cassis, and herbs. Hollow in mid-palate, soft tannins, low acidity and a moderate finish. I'd say drink this now, don't think it will get better and likely will begin to recede.

I know 2011 was supposedly a difficult year, but many of the wines I've had have been excellent. This is rich but not overly concentrated. There is some mineral and tobacco. A long persistent finish makes you sit up and take notice.

The night before the night before Xmas (including Vermont wines); 12/24/2015-12/25/2015 (My backyard around the fire): I wouldn't say TRB nailed it in 2011, but the RM wines are a bit better than most. This is the basic cab. This is still drinking young, but it was a crowd pleaser among the neighbors. Purple in color. Cassis, grilled herbs and a bit of green tobacco on the nose. On the palate, this has a nice juicy acidity. Cassis and cigar box notes. Some depth. Picks up on the finish. Very nice.

This has really improved since last time I had one of these. Still took about 2 hours of decanting before I really started enjoying it but then the nose opened up and the rest of the wine followed. I would give this another couple years in bottle before opening or a nice decant if you open it anytime soon.

This saw about an hour of air in the decanter. It hit the glass roaring with dark berries, some oak, chocolate, and spices but after about an hour it really lost its luster. A function of the vintage? Maybe, next time I will not decant.
Significantly better than my first bottle, which makes me more convinced that that bottle was corked. Nice red fruit this time around and it blossomed with an hour of air. Very nice mid-weight cab.

This wine is just drinking great at this time with a short decant. This wine shows how talented TRB is by making such an excellent wine in a weak vintage. This wine might not last 20 years but it sure is drinking great right now.

Wonderful floral nose. Red fruits and floral accents on the palate. Very light for a Napa Cab. Perhaps due to the vintage. It was delicious and a different style (in a good way) than all of the other heavy hitters we drank tonight (Colgin, Corra, Maybach).

Dark, rich and lush but not extracted or goopy. Good mix of black and red fruits with strong mocha backbone and wonderful mouthfeel. Didn't see a lot off change over the time this was opened so maybe not an intellectual journey but certianly a pleasurable one.

There just isn't a ton going on with this bottle right now. Perhaps it is in a weird spot? The nose takes a lot of coaxing to come out and strong dark fruit with pencil shavings and licorice. Finish seems a tad shorter than I would expect and overall just kind of find but nothing great. Not typical for an RM cab for me....did improve on day 2 so I would say if opening another before 2016, decant for at least 2-3 hours before drinking

this was ridiculously delicious. it kept evolving with each glass. palate was jam packed with blacks and reds. the mid-palate was dense and transitioned from fruit to olive brine; then continued to a finish that included sweet tobacco and finally fig paste. what a journey for the senses.

Fresh blackberries and raspberries on the nose with just a hint of a roasted note. The palate is fresh and lively with acidity but the tannins are young and chalky. In a year or two this will be the brightest "regular" RM cab so far. Or so I think.

So smooth and easy. Loaded with primary fruit but somehow not iverripe or over the top. Well focused with acidity. Great with skirt steaks. Not sure this will get much better than it is now, but it is damn good now. At $55, great QPR for a top Napa cab.

A bit uneven at this stage, but accessible and tasty with a bit more bay leaf savoriness than I recall from previous vintages, and maybe a bit less mid-palate depth, but the finish was showing more complexity and juicy length as the ample young cab fruit and oak didn't swamp the whole wine, also showing some powdered mocha and pencil shavings. 90-91 now, 92+ once this integrates in a few years.

Coravined a glass and let it decant around an hour. Clearly this is young and could have used more air, but this was still very drinkable. When you consider that this is an entry level wine from what is probably the worst vintage for Napa in 10-15 years, this is a very successful wine. From the nose and first sip, this is unquestionably modern styled Napa Cab. Rich red fruits and kirsch, with oak, that might be a little prominent at this point, swinging between slightly sweet vanilla and some nice spice notes, which are all upheld by smooth tannins and dark chocolate notes. This really could use a few more years or a longer decant to show its best, but it wouldn't be a real tragedy if you jumped right in. The quality of this wine, relative to the year, has me fired up for the 12's & 13's. Relative to Napa, this is a good value wine.

Held a casual wine night with friends w/ the following quick notes on the wines:
2010 Failla Chardonnay - 88, yellowing in color and with fruit a bit faded but enjoyable.
1999 Nickel & Nickel Sullenger - spoiled
1995 Lewis Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon - 90, Very enjoyable w/ cigar box notes at the forefront.
1997 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon - 90, mature with much oak and earth.
1999 Paradigm Cabernet Sauvignon - 89, smooth and very integrated. I'd say past prime but still enjoyable.
2002 Whitehall Lane Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon - 90, surprisingly youthful fruit w/ nicely integrated tanins. Easy drinking.
1996 Beringer Vineyards Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon - 91, probably the biggest surprise of the night. Retains some nice tart berry notes along with a complex nose, fully integrated tannins, and a nice long finish. Fully mature but probably will hold for several more years.
2011 Rivers-Marie Cabernet Sauvignon - 92, Youthful and juicy and at the same time has great balance. Yum!

One of the better 2011's that I've laid my lips to. This was not thin, herbal and vegetal and maintained that big opulent nose and fruit that I've come to love from these wines. Not quite as good as other vintages but vintage considered; a really nice wine.

This was drinking wonderfully with dinner. Rich, deep, and an incredibility long finish. This is my 4th bottle and I would of guessed this was the single vineyard not the Napa. PnP and PnV, and drank over 4+ hours. WOW, I like this alot. Black and blue fruits, tobacco leaf, woodspice, oak and hints of mocha. Some herbal traits with slight greenness on palate that was not offensive. Rich without going OTT, balanced with soft sweet tannins, light:moderate acidity, lush texture, and a short:medium finish being the only notable shortcoming of this bottling. (92+)

This was my first wine from Rivers-Marie. Decided to open it to determine if I wanted to order their 2012 Pinots (which I did!). Decanted for an hour - but this is young and could have used another few hours. Very aromatic upon opening and has a wonderful mouthfeel with no harshness from either tannins or alcohol. I will definitely hold my other bottles for a couple of years - it will only get better.

Popped and poured with grilled filet mignon. Aroma was plum right off the bat, along with some blackberry. The taste is really consistent and quite enjoyable. There is a bit of tartness in there too that hangs around on the finish. Not much complexity beyond the fruit, but it is a nice drink.

This wine is so young that it needs 3-5 years min. I like to try all of my new shipments to make sure they are not corked. This wine will be great in years to come.
Pop and Poured. This started out with wonderful fruit and a great nose. It added a little weight and the tannins started to flush out but this remained on the lighter side of RM cabs. Overall it was a crowd favorite as they found it very enjoyable and will be interested to see where this goes. A small amount was set aside and consumed on day 2. The wine was still drinking very well but did not seem to show any improvement over the first pour.

This is the second bottle of the 2011 Rivers Marie Napa that we have consumed in the last several days. While still extremely young, this bottle was drinking even better than the last one due to a 5 hour decant. However, there is no question that the best is yet to come from this wine and we will probably save any remaining bottles for at least a couple of years. This cab has a nice rich and creamy body with a red fruit profile that goes well with flavors of mint, vanilla, minerals, and spices. I would certainly give this a try if you have several bottles.

This just arrived the other day and I couldn't resist popping the cork on the first bottle. The Rivers Marie Napa is a really nice cabernet. Wonderfully rich, creamy, and silky with red fruit, blueberries, cool mint, pencil shavings, chocolate, vanilla, and spices. Also a great nose with aromas of raspberries and earth. This bottle kept opening even after a couple hours in the decanter. I would expect this wine to continue improving, but it is already drinking very well. A decent QPR at around $50 per bottle.

A really good wine in an off vintage. Black fruit, spice, cedar, cassis and an herbal component on the nose and flavors. Not as full bodied as some years. Silky smooth tannin in the finish. Very good now. Not sure I would hold more than a few years.

This has really improved since last time I had one of these. Still took about 2 hours of decanting before I really started enjoying it but then the nose opened up and the rest of the wine followed. Finish seems a tad shorter than I would expect and overall just kind of find but nothing great. Not typical for an RM cab for me....did improve on day 2 so I would say if opening another before 2016, decant for at least 2-3 hours before drinking

First Rivers Marie. Definitely needs more time but still showed very well. Nice depth of blue and black fruits with a bit of olive.

Coravin'd a month prior to full consumption. Showed a much greener profile than this occasion. Much more integrated and supple. Darker fruits with nice balance and poise. Drinking great now.

A great wine for the price and 2011. Very simalar to the 2010.

This wine is so young that it needs 3-5 years min. I like to try all of my new shipments to make sure they are not corked. This wine will be great in years to come.

Pretty good. Some fruit, but also non-fruit notes -- maybe tobacco and leather. I haven't had a 2011 Napa cab that wowed me yet...

First sip, bright, tart, is this Pinot or Cab I thought
Flavor is a toss between jolly rancher and rubarb popsicle stick, I say stick because the oak cast a pall over the fruit

Third bottle of this in the last couple of weeks! Still very young, but opens up nicely with a 5 hour decant. See my previous notes.
