Great muscadet...probably the greatest muscadet made year in and year out. Showing some complexity but this is still an acidic and fairly young wine. Will be interesting to see how this ages...my guess is it continues to mprove over the next 3-5 years.

At six years out, this wine has now become creamy, having lost of its nervous verve. Abundant honeydew and an edge of white grapefruit with a finish of flint and mineral. Long gone is the sharp edge of this wine. 12% alc. With shrimp and grits. Recommended.

Great. Deep yellow in glass. Notes of lemon, aged lemon, light brioche, mineral, some hints of softer yellow fruit, all with essential lean muscadet profile, making for an interesting study in subtle richness. Served with oysters and cheese board, just perfect. Best bottle of six, and last one.

Developing a layer of softness that complements the lemon and mineral elements. Added floral notes to nose that is quite nice. Not exactly more complexlty, rather maturing of what was there, a bit riper. Get the idea of a not exactly sweet honey effect.

This bottling is always more restrained and nuanced than the regular bottling. Even at five years, the wine is a bit tight and reserved. Flint and mineral carry the nose and palate, but white grapefruit, honeydew, and lemon oil work their way across the palate. The acidity isn’t sharp, but it is the frame upon which the wine is built. Served a bit too cold. 12% alc. With grilled shrimp and fried green tomatoes. Recommended.

A year ago I noted, “Liquid gold! Still young enough to show a bit of green on the rim, but the core is sunny yellow. The nose is lemon oil, saline, cream, wet stones and melon. Crisp, clean, but neither sharp nor steely.” And so it is! All of $8.99. This is the definition of QPR. 12% alc. With shrimp and cheeses; killer with the shrimp. Recommended.

It has been a few years since I have opened one of these. It seems a little rounder now, with some very light oxidized and appley notes. As this warms, there is the slightest suggestion of funk, and I am not sure if this bottle has a low level of taint. Ann is usually quick to point out TCA, and she liked the one small glass she had. I'll check back in tomorrow.

Straw colored: Relatively quiet on the nose. Racy on the palate. Lots of citrus peel, chalk and minerals with bright lively acidity. I am pretty impressed with this bottle. Have only two left so will wait on them for a while. Reminds me a bit of some of the 2013 Burgndy I have been drinking in that it is pretty angular juice. Bizarrely good value at $14.39!

Aromas of sea salt, oysters, and grapefruit. On the palate, clean, bright and cheery; light body. Strong grapefruit note that fades a bit with time and some salinity. Overall this is simply fresh and lively. After the number of Clos des Briords from Pepiere I've had in the past few years, I can't really act like I'm surprised here as if I had found the Holy Grail, but this remains stunningly good. After looking at my previous '13 notes, I see that I was a little disappointed with this vintage, but I have to say that this bottle convinced me that I was probably wrong, or that I should have waited a year or two to see where this goes.

Served with steamed mussels (again!). Similar notes. Light yellow. A bit muted at first in nose, but with a lovely fresh mineral/lemon tone. Much the same on palate, but with just a bit of softness, and fine acid balance, clean and moderate length. Opened up a bit as it warmed, and per other notes, suggests seaside and mineral more than a focused flavor. Did not get the honey noted, but do get the gist of that in the softness. Quite enjoyable.

Normally Briords slaps me in the nostrils with a dose of lemon and lime rinds but in this glass I find a pronounced honey-like note. The citric tang is there on the palate though, and the wine is thoroughly enjoyable with a lingering finish that melds both of those sensory impressions.

This remains just about the most absurd bargain in the wine world, and I'm convinced its low price subcounciously keeps some who give scores from giving it something even higher. This is amazing wine, still at under $20. The 2014 is even cheaper thanks to the Euro tanking. Drank it alongside a bevy of good Muscadet producers (Ecu, Luneau-Papin, etc.) at the beach this summer and this more than held its own, it surpassed them all. Seawater and lemon.

agree with others. this was very good with a mussel dish, but needs air or bottle age to mellow the acids a little. very nice now, will report back after a couple days in the fridge. Day 2 much creamier and fruity. Still has blistering acid but much more approachable.

Bring on the oysters this is salty, citrus, malic, sour, and some are likely to call this a bit shrill with its searing acid though I am a fan, had decent depth, was waiting for this to this to flesh out which is usually the case for me with most Muscadets, a couple years in bottle couldn't hurt.

Everyone is right, this isn't as good as the 2012. But that is only because the 2012 Briords is just about the best $17 wine ever. 2012 was insanely good for the price, 2013 is very, very good for the price.
The descriptions are all spot on and all tend to run together: lovely citrus, fantastic chalky minerality, etc. My favorite is the very slight touch of something a bit funkier - someone else says grapefruit, and that may be about right, there's just a little bit of musk to the citrus.
Yet another wonderful Briords.

12.0% - Clear, med to light lemon / clean, med to low intensity - lemon flesh, saline, mineral, shellfish, fennel / dry, med+ acidity, med to low body, med intensity and length, not as stellar as the '12 at this stage but it improved as it got closer to room temperature lifted by some gentle spice notes. Nonetheless, always a treat with shucked oysters. One down eleven to come...

A bit tart for my tastes, the usual acidity of the muscadet verged on citrus--unusual I think and not what I'm looking for in a Muscadet. Not terrible, but not worth the coin and probably not worth a revisit.

Tropical fruit on the nose; tangerine, nectarine, grapefruit and lemon with a clean ocean spray tone. Clean and stoney on entry, developing a lemon zest as it gets into the middle where the acid picks up and a grapefruit note begins to reveal itself. The acids really pick up on the finish and a grapefruit runs note lingers on the backside. The acidity does even out a bit with air. Good to very good. Hold (2016??)

Smells like briny ocean air, with some cool, barely ripe fruit (apple and peach, maybe?). Ample tart lemony acidity on the palate, with firm stony and saline marine minerality, and some very cool, crisp apple. A bit leaner and more mineral-centric than the 2012, if I remember correctly; in any case, delicious.

The lovely nose on this wine is herbal, yeasty and a bit lactic with more obvious aromatics of grapefruit and seashells. Overall restrained and understated, not unlike a native yeast fermented, steel-aged Sancerre or Chablis. Quiet yet pure and intense, really nice! On the palate dry and highly acidic. Plenty of neutral grapefruity extract here, with a mouthfeel that is firm, dense and fleshy. Impeccable balance, truly seamless. To call this wine minerally would be a great understatement: I haven't tasted a wine that felt so much like licking stones for a long while. Clean and crisp with massive drinkability, this wine accompanied our sushi dinner perfectly. I'm truly embarrassed to say that I paid a whopping 7.65 € for this wine; I feel like a criminal now.

This is all about citrus, rocks and salinity. Major lemon and lemon peel with chalky stone notes and loads of fresh ocean breeze. Drank over 4 days and the fruit opened up to broaden a little beyond citrus to include fresh cut green apple and green grape notes. Very solid.

Served with steamed mussels, and finished over next couple of nights as aperitif. Perfect with mussels. Well defined on opening with stone/mineral/acid/lemon/citrus mouth and nose. Moderate finish. Definitely leaner in terms of fruit than the recent run of vintages, but no less exciting. Lots of racy citric tang that makes this just great with food, and a certain richness that comes from the loads of chalky minerals that coat the palate. The price keeps ticking up on this bugger, but it's still a solid QPR.

Wine Wednesday at Weygandt (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): A young but beautiful Briords. Smells of clean laundry, sea spray, chalk and lemon peel. Mineral-driven and brisk on the palate, this is intensely young, but showing lots of flowers, chalk, lemon and lime peel, so much crushed rocks, salt and minerals. Cellar-worthy, I'd like to try this again in three-to-five.

Still very good!

Zippy and tasty. Lots of citrus. Light color and mouthfeel. Nice fruit. This can clearly last for a while, but this bottle waster user friendly than my earlier ones and this seems to be entering a drinking window.

Fun Saturday with a few French Bottles: Classic stuff, so clean, flora, bright, salty and oceanic. The acid awakens the palate and energizes the wine. Looking forward to seeing the mineral and oceanic elements evolve and age over time.

Searing acidity as you'd expect. Needs to settle down a bit but will come with age. Love the fact that most people don't drink Muscadet, keeping the price down so I can buy more.

Served with steamed mussels, and finished over next couple of nights as aperitif. Perfect with mussels. Well defined on opening with stone/mineral/acid/lemon/citrus mouth and nose. Moderate finish. Grew a bit rounder and longer with air time and warming--and continued to do so over next couple of nights--enjoyable across the board.

Mineral-driven and brisk on the palate, this is intensely young, but showing lots of flowers, chalk, lemon and lime peel, so much crushed rocks, salt and minerals. Cellar-worthy, I'd like to try this again in three-to-five.
