Deep garnet with some bricking in color. Nose of dark stewed cherries, meaty umami, savory spices, a dash of black pepper, and a bit of black tea. Medium-light bodied, just the right amount of acid, and easy drinking. Palate of dark cherries, strawberries, earth, cocoa, spices, and tea. Flows smoothly into the finish with just a bit of tannins providing a velvet-like texture. Moderate length finish of cocoa, tea, dark violet, berry skins, and dusty minerals.
Very enjoyable and approachable.

On PnP, this was all funk. It needed 90+ minutes for some balance and fruit to enter the picture. What evolved was a nice wine that had a mix of fruit and savory, earthy components. That said, it wasn’t what is was a few years ago. On the way down or in a transition phase? That is the question.

A fun field blend where everything but the kitchen sink seems to be in here…mostly zin, with 6-7 lesser known varietals. A bit funky upon opening (pop and pour), this opened to reveal a brambly, tobacco leaf, weightless yet jammy profile. Soft and supple mixed fruits aromatically (mostly red and black fruits), with some added woody notes (more earthy than oak driven). The mid palate here reminds you this is zin to its core with plenty of black cherry compote and then the vibrant acidity driven finish sports some black pepper and spicy rhubarb. Mostly integrated at this point, I think this is at its apex.
Brambly blackberry and red fruit. Tea, earth, bacon fat, herb, coconut, and vanilla. Med + acid, high alcohol without being hot, med+ tannin. Lush and well-balanced wine.

Not one of my favorite wines from Bedrock (who is a favorite producer). This seems to be a bit out of balance to my palate, with strong peppery notes on the front end and a gush of acidity taking over on the back end. Not really in my wheelhouse, either alone or with food. Followed over almost 5 hours; it held up just fine but didn’t improve.

PnP. Needed 10-20 minutes in the glass to blow off a slight funk. After that, a smooth and balanced wine appeared with lighter black fruit (didn’t get the usual blue fruit) interlaced with savory aspects. I’m not sure this can go to 2033 as some have suggested but no hurry to drink.

Nice wine, but finished third behind a 2011 Cayuse Camaspelo and a 2007 Betz Pere de Famille, which is probably not surprising. Will try the next one as a stand alone. PnP, definitely could have benefitted from a few hours in a decanter. Evolved nicely over the nice 90 minutes. Bigger wine than I expected, which was a pleasant surprise. As always, nice QPR.

Our last bottle was about three years ago and this is much better now. Lovely wine. The vineyard notes from Bedrock website: "The oldest vines, planted in 1910, are roughly 70% Zin, and the rest is made up of Alicante Bouschet, Tempranillo, Petite Sirah, Teroldego, and a few mysterious others." Current CT average score of 91.4 seems a tad low.

Well, my last bottle back in March I said I'd sit on this last bottle a few years. Forgot my note and popped and poured a glass. Lots of black cherry, some tartness, and an almost salty quality to it. It's a little too forward for me now, but bet this will calm down over the next few years. For now, keeping the score the same as the last bottle, but this could jumps a few points with more time.

1 hour decant. This has smoothed out quite a bit since our last bottle. Blackberry, briar, white pepper, cherry, and the slightest bit of stemminess. Really nice zin finish with rich and perhaps a bit jammy fruit, but no heat.

I normally love Bedrock wines, but this one had a bit too much of everything for me. There's some overripe fruit in the mix - just enough to be distracting. That's followed with some alcoholic heat. Oak dominates the aftertaste. Things smoothed out a bit the second day, but the overall result was disappointing.

I suggest giving this at least 3 hours of air to allow it to open up. I put it through the Vinturi twice, poured it back in the bottle, transported it, put it in a decanter and swirled it like a mad man! It still took hours to fully open, but when it did, it was smooth and enjoyable. Not a lot really distinct about this and believe it's better with food.

Not as opulent as other vintages of Dolinsek. A more savory style. Good, not great. There is a tart olive and black tea note that you wouldn't expect in a Zin that seems to throw things off a bit. Goes more tart/mineral with air. Weakest of the vintages I've had going back to the '10. Time may help. Hold.

Blackberry, black pepper, black olive, black licorice, black plum. Savory. Ripe but not cloying. Acidity to balance the fruit profile. Went great with a dish of sausage, hot pepper, olives, bitter greens and anchovies. Equally wonderful with a three year old Parmigiano-Reggiano. As good or better the second day. A bit brighter, smoky and more complex.

Much more settled than my previous bottle. Cherry, plum, fig notes carry from the nose to the palate where they are joined by sage and lighter red fruit. Well balanced tannin and acid. Great with food or on its own.

More blue than red purple color. Lots of black fruit on entry—blackberry, black plum that may be a tad overripe, and there may be a suggestion of blueberry. Surprisingly, this wine is not as full-bodied as I might have guessed. It is, in fact, far from full-boded. Very sedate tannins. A touch of bitterness on the rear palate, but that is gone as soon as I noticed it. Not the most sophisticated wine in the world, but, certainly, an easy drinker.

Pop and pour, consumed over 2 hours. Nose: Medium expressiveness, tart red and black fruit, leather and earth. Palate: Medium-full bodied, tart dark red fruit attack, great mid-palate persistence and balance, brambly fruit flavors build in intensity through the back-end and dominate a lengthy finish.

This blend smacks you in the face with bright red fruit. After the initial shock (and a bit of time in the glass) the layers of fruit start showing through--cherry, fig, raspberry layered in. Beautiful, long, savory finish shows off the well balanced acid and tannin.
I can't get enough of the Bedrock field blends.

Dark ruby. Starts off as quite savory, but with some air cherry and plum come through. The acidity and some dry tannins provide tension. Better to hold this one 6-12 more months.

Notes from day 3. Lots of fresh fruit aromas: red/black cherry, red/black raspberry, cola and a hint of potpourri. The palate shows similar fruit flavors initially, then has a light red licorice midpalate and a full, well-structured, lengthy finish that adds some wood/mineral elements. The finish is my favorite part of this wine. Drinking well now with some air but should only get better.

Red Blends on a Saturday afternoon (Loretta Paganini School of Cooking): IIRC, this is one of the historic field blends that Bedrock produces. Its young but surprisingly accessible now. The nose has black raspberries, cherries, spice and bramble. Slight complexity but I think it will develop with time. More red fruit than purple on the palate. Nice acidity. Nice finish. Improved over the afternoon.

Good, quite fruity, black cherry, nose quite reticent. Pretty wine, but I'm not so sure I'm into these field blends. I much prefer their Syrah's and white field blends. A shame since I have so many bottles of these red blends.

Pop and pour and initially tasted at the end of the night after a a long day. This is quite angular with the acidty quite jarring. Recorded and then tastier the following day. With a day of air, it softened and showed a richness of fruit but still maintaining the acidty at keeps it lively. Good but not a great Bedrock.

No formal notes taken but from memory: Deep purple colour. Nice nose. Nice middle weight palate, light tannins, good acidity. Very primary flavours with a lot going on, not sure the blend of grapes in this heritage blend but it definitely keeps things interesting. A bit sweet but enjoyable. Decent finish and balanced overall. Definitely true to past bottles of Dolinsek vineyard.

Elegant and smooth, great now, doesn't seem to be designed for long aging for much improvement, but pretty great nonetheless.

Needs a bit of a decant as it was tight on PnP, but good fruit flavors and easy to drink after going through the Vinturi.

14.8% abv. Dark ruby with expressive aromas. Blueberry and sage dominate a round, rich palate impression. Excellent depth and length. Should continue to improve. Outstanding!

Nice. Pepper and spice with good acid. A bit thin body. Fall fruits- plums, fig, quince.

There is a lot going on with this wine - recommend a short decant to let it fully open up. Its integrated well on a medium body with a solid finish.

Very balanced and elegant at a young age and nicely textured particularly with such a considerable amount of Zinfandel in the blend.

Great floral and licorice notes. Great tannic structure which is starting to appear to be a hallmark of 2013 in the North Coast AVAs. Wonderful palate presence and depth. Good now with air.

Incredible precision for a zinfandel blend. Very dense and primal right now though. One to check on in a couple years.
