Celebrated a good friend's BDay and we started with a mag that to the best of my knowledge was disgorged around 2007. A whiff of Maderization on the aromatics as the cork was removed and on the first pour but both the color and flavors promised good things to come. Within 10-15 min the citruce fruit emerged in full and the wine got brighter and lively. Lots of yellow fruit, good mid palate and base notes from the 40% PN. Creamy with nice delicate bead and a generous mousse, this got bettter & better as we went along and suddenly poof it was all gone. Funny how that happens when a mag starts to sing.

The nose is so restrained, and hints at elegance and subtlety, with sweet flowers, and some yeasty notes coming through. The palate is not. It is singular in focus with it’s seething, racing acidity. The finish is long, however I am uncertain if this is pleasant. It does allow you to pull some Lemon notes, maybe some salinity, some green plant matter( think celery, wild onion ), Mid 80s, nothing wrong but not quite right either.

First sips after opening the bottle, really featured minerality over fruit. The acidity that was there was mostly lime. Not much of a nose. With some time in the glass, the wine opened up and had a great nose. Some lemon showed up on the front of the tongue, with hints of green apple amongst the lime. Some oxidative toastiness. Pinots and Few More (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Very enjoyable again and sadly my last bottle. Nice yeastiness, apple, citrus, mineral. Opened for aperitif for OTBN. At first I thought it may be past its prime given the gentle pop, copper color, and non-fresh nose. However an attending champagne head said it was very nice - just a more old world style. Definitely complex on the palate. Bubbles were not particularly aggressive and no yeastiness on the nose. Full mouth feel with an intriguing, lingering finish. I think I could learn to appreciate this style.

Once again from Split. Based on purchase history this was disgorged early 2007. There has been some B2B variation with this but unquestionably this evening's bottle was one of the finest -a little funk blew off to reveal fresh rich fruit within 20 minute this was just singing. Fun when this happens.

For the price this wine always impresses me, and with bottle age becomes one of my favorites--especially with rich foods like creamy high fat ages cheeses. Even though it's only 40% pinot, the richness really shines through.

- Yellow gold color and has flavours of butterscotch and hazelnut - Bottle number 2 was very good. Mousse is subsiding, toasty, carmel goodness so drink them now, if you have any in your cellar. Still an excellent bottle for the price.

This was my house Champagne for the last couple of years, although it's been a long while since I opened a bottle. This bottle showed a lot of ginger and energy, much more than I recall from past bottles, along with light hazelnut notes. Very satisfying. Hurricane Sandy with Deb, Abbie and the Tracys.

This NV which had been sitting in my cellar for 3-6 years, was one of the best NV's I've ever had. Rich hazelnut and ripe fruit nose, very fine, but sparse bead and rich acidity for freshness and complex sweet and bitter fruit flavors with an very long finish. Superb, even compared to a Krug grand cuvee we had yesterday

Very enjoyable NV brut. Most Champagnes with apple flavor lean towards at least a little tart green apple, but this is sweeter like a good mackintosh (yet dry enough to avoid being cloying). A bit of power from the pinot noir, combined with the class of 60% Chardonnay. One of the better NV out there.

We've been going through a case of this wine, and it's been delivering. This time, I opened it on Friday night and sipped a glass (very nice), but left most of the bottle for our New Years Eve gathering the following night. On NYE, there was an array of champagne on the table, and I returned to this one that had by then been open for 24 hours. It was terrific, with white and clear fruits, fresh dough, a cut above, classier and more precise than the other champagnes open. Terrific house champagne.

One of our house Champagnes this season, and another good bottle. Apples emerge from the palate right after uncorking. The palate shows hues of subtle white and yellow fruit, and is very finessed, almost demure, with small bead, and yet packs a good amount of outward flavor and energy. Champagne at this price point is usually clunky and coarse, but this is the opposite.

In-line with a bottle last month. Lighter in color and body, more white/clear than golden and little hint of its high Pinot Noir content, low carbonation yet the bead is very fine and lasts into the second day. More subtle than large scaled, but still bright and very refreshing.

Mini Offline for Mareff (Il Mercato, Hallandale, FL): Full bodied forward apple and pear fruit for Champagne. Some bread dough notes and a hint of sweetness on the mid-palate, but finishes with a nice crispness. Lower in carbonation than most Champagne too. Not a classic style, but one I like.

Distinct aroma of freshly risen bread dough. Toasty yeast flavors dominate the slightly sweet palate. Vanilla and anise flavors in the rich finish. Good structure, firm acid, nicely balanced. Not really subtle, not quite elegant, but a very drinkable champagne at a very (for champagne) reasonable price of $25. Great value for what it is.

Not familar with the house or the style at all. Very sweet and creamy vanilla on the nose. Attractive, and none of the reductive funk at all. Chocolate across the palate, I would guess this actually have quite a bit of reserve wine in it. Very tasty stuff indeed.

Blind Champagne/Sparkling Tasting: Probably my top wine of the night during the blind tasting. It was closely rated to the Veuve Grand Dame, but taking price into account, this has the edge. Had a little age to it. Nice honeyed color. Subtle nose, with a more pleasurable profile than either the White Star (tasted in the 4 spot) and the NV Krug (tasted in the 2 spot). Nutty, mild and floral. Strawberry and apples. This was perfectly balanced and had a nice finish. A well done effort at the $30 price point. Great value.

Oodles of very fine streaming bubbles. The nose is yeasty, pear, citrus. The palate is elegant and bright with yeast, toast, lemon, citrus, pear, mineral, and a medium plus finish.
