I drink a lot more of the Cote du Py than the Corcelette, so it's hard to avoid a direct comparison. In that sense, this is much more fruit forward, but not in a way that takes it out of balance. A really broad spectrum of red fruits, sweet baking spice, bits of dried orange peel and a slight touch of earthiness. This drinks much "cleaner" and doesn't have the funkiness that I expect from the Cote du Py. The tannins are smooth and fully integrated, with bright acidity keeping it lively... everything that I look for in a Cru Beaujolais. A decade out, the 2014's are really proving to be a classic vintage and probably the best since '09. The worst thing I can probably say about this is that it's probably missing that extra gear of complexity that I get from the Cote du Py, but this is a fantastic wine for the $35 or so that I paid for it.

Absolutely stunning. It has the characteristic Foillard Morgon fruit (cherries, berries) but the age has brought some more savory and forest floor stuff to the party. Great acid and minerality, zero flaws. Sad I don't have more.

Nose of overflowing fruit sprinkled with spices. It reminded me of some Barolos.
In the mouth, the serving temperature is crucial. Served a little too cold, the acidity stands out clearly on the finish, causing an imbalance with an ample and fruity juice. At the right temperature, we have a wine with great maturity, full of fruit and earthy notes. The juice is juicy, almost sanguine. Nice balance on a trace and integrated acidity. Very interesting finish between spice and wet stone.

Wow, this was fantastic. So fresh and floral, elegant tannins and crisp acidity, over tangy red fruits. So lively, but these earthy, savory elements are coming out, and this should continue to age nicely. Drank with some roast chicken and great friends, and all was well.

Deep crimson red. Smells like fresh cranberries, orange rind and freshly cut spring flowers. Tart crunchy berries and tart crabapples. A nice dose of tannin keep the wine fresh and lively. A nice tartness to it. Still feels young but very drinkable. As it sits in the glass and further opens up, it gains a bit of sweetness. 👍🏻

Truly one of the finest cru Beaujolais I have had. An upfront assault of brighter- red fruit, mostly tart cherry, lingonberry and some lower- depth strawberry and sous bois, with moist wood and that rough velvet forest woody tone. A marriage with crisp chicken nd very little purple fruit now. While not as deeply full of Cote de Py old vine mineral complexity or Bouland Delys floral notes, it is special in its own right, especially in this great Beaujolais vintage. Cellar temp a must; no decant needed

opened but not decanted as I was taking to a friends house for a social distanced dinner. It was opened for about 6 hrs. In the glas a beautiful dusty dirty ruby color with little if any bricking. The nose screans rich red purple fruit that screams like a west coast pinot in a very good way. beautiful mouthful of sour cherries, bitter plumbs and some hints of earth. This is just starting to be in a good drinking place. No rush. Glad to have a few more. Went very well with grilled whole sea bass.

From night two: seems to have gained a bit of weight, and a little darker flavors, with plenty of medium rich dark plum, blueberry, raspberry fruit; excellent acidity and some mild fine tannins give good balance. Tasty, and ready to go, though no hurry at all.

This bottle showed much better than my last bottle. Age has given this wine a nice earthy, meaty profile but still has that tart and crunchy red fruit backbone underneath. Very floral as well. Medium+ acid, medium tannin and body. Delicious wine and very versatile from a food pairing perspective.

Lovely fresh berry fruits, rhubarb, spice, and sweet tart on the nose. Elegant mid weighted and lifted on the palate. There is s freshness to the fruit, with good acidity, a sense of soil- stoniness, coupled with a sappiness and hidden depth. There is an incredible ease to drinking this serious yet joyful wine. One glass is not enough. Youthfully delicious, and while I suspect it can hang for some time, it is so delicious right now that I cannot think of a good reason to wait. 92

Great wine for the price that has that BoJo freshness but without the grapey flavor profile I sometimes get in some examples. Full of cranberry, soil-y and brambly things.

Lovely fruit, lovely balance. More depth and nuance than typical for Morgon, as it should be given the pedigree. Excellent and in a nice drinking window. Glad I have more.

Richly textured in nose and palate from first sip. Red fruit, cherry, raspberry, a bit of plum, great foundation of earth and stone, spice. Many layers, but the sensory suave density of the mineral and fruit is quite remarkable, both aged and fresh simultaneously and all in a fine balance. Seems to be in a great place.

Dark cherries, candied red fruit, blood orange, and smoke ok the nose. Great acidity with flavors of blood orange, red berries, and herbs on the palate. Nice finish.

Popped and poured at cellar temp, enjoyed over 2.5 hours. Deliciously volatile (not over the top, that is) on the nose with savory red cherry fruit, stone, leather and a hint of barnyard. On the palate quite substantial without being actually big or weighty. Thoroughly savory with bright-as-hell cherry and raspberry-laden fruit, blood orange, distinct minerality and very high, mouth-watering acidity. There is lots of depth to the fruit which is downright delicious already but seems to hold plenty in reserve as well. The texture is fantastically firm, this is definitely a whole lot more serious than your entry level Morgon without sacrificing any in the energy department. Ultra-focused on the finish with also some nice bitterness to it. Majestic.

Very interesting nose with some spices, cherry and some earthy smells - almost a rusty/metallic undertone. Some rhubarb, raspberries are in there also, maybe even honey (not sure). Darker than I would expect for a Gamay, and much less strawberries on the nose. Intense cherries on the palate, somewhat acid, not round at all, quite sharp. Very short finish, not lingering.
The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, strawberry jam, cherry, honeydew, dust, stoniness and stoniness.

Vibrant aromatics, popping with raspberries, red cherries and red currants, with roses, spiced tea, mushroom. Zesty, tangy and bright on the palate with light, dusty tannins and crunchy red cherries and raspberries. Complex elements of roses, rhubarb, pepper, leather, some mineral and mushroom, too. Linear and brisk yet deep. Curious what this will do over the next 3-4 years but this bottle drank incredibly well.

Popped and poured. Light ruby color. Tart red fruits on the nose with cranberry and cherry, hints of floral/herbal tea and a little black pepper. Tart and spicy on the palate with zippy acids and medium tannins. I actually agree with one of the earlier notes that this might have been better in its youth with a bit more upfront fruit. Now, it's a lot of acid and almost too tart. Still very well made and drank better with food.

Last bottle, wish I had more. The spice on the nose is remarkable, I could smell it all day. Round and approachable, with more depth than any of the Beaujolais skeptics at the table expected so they were pleasantly surprised.

The first bottle a year ago was among the best cru Beaujolais ever. What a disappointment, then, to open a second bottle a year later and to encounter that tell tale acrid nose and slightly sour taste that are TCA. First time I have ever experienced that with Foillard, whose wines are consistently excellent.

Cru Beaujolais Tasting - Exploring all the Crus (New York, NY): #13 of 21 wines tasted. The 1st of three Morgons in the line-up. This seemed to have more depth and complexity than many of the other crus - with an earthy minerality, however for me this was the least distinctive of the three Morgons. The group enjoyed this wine with 6 pennies voted, 1 penny voted by me.

On opening, strong reductive aromas take center stage, mostly but not entirely obscuring the red fruit and spices behind it. After a couple of hours open the reduction recedes and what is a really nice wine appears. Now the red fruit emerges, with cinnamonn/baking spices and something more assertively spicy and savory too (black pepper?), with a bit of earthy funk in the background. On the palate this is relatively rich and full for Foillard but there is also acidity to balance that richness. Good stuff, but next time I'd give this some vigorous aeration to get rid of the reductive funk.

Popped and poured. To the eye- perfect garnet/ruby color, excellent clarity, still 'purply' on the edge On the nose- cranberry, crushed stones, red 'Nibs' candy(in a good way!), some anise, complex and such purity! This bottle had a bit of reduction but blew off within a minute or so. In the mouth- crystalline cranberry/red fruit, lightly pétillant, mineral, refreshing acidity, finesse, very long and dangerously chugable! Foillard isn't interested in big, extracted and muscular Morgons but his wines are the utmost of what the expression of Gamay can be. Curious to see where this wine will go in 2-3 years. This Corcellete is delicious, end of lesson!

World class wine for EUR20/btl. This is more understated and refined compared to the Morgon Py. The nose is pretty: floral, earthy, pretty red fruit in the lighter end of the spectrum - a hint of cranberry, licorice pastilles. A ballerina on the palate, beautiful and elegant. The fruit is light red and elegant and the mark from the soil is distinct. Fantastic wine, delicious now, but surely a keeper for a decade or two.

Opened but not decanted for about 1 1/2 hrs before trying. What a lovely nose of primary fruit with a bit of cinnamon. First taste was almost over extracted or maybe just very very primary. Not what I was expecting as it was extremely concentrated and just felt like it needs some time to calm down, resolve and mature. Over the course of the evening it did get into a better place and I have saved about 1/3 of the bottle for tonight. Hopefully it will be a little more restrained. I think it will become a very good wine with time but much more stuffing than what I expected. Score reserved but not in a bad way.

PnPed. The nose on this is quite pretty, with cinnamon, other red spices, wild strawberry and cherry, and a green vegetal/herbal component. The palate and finish are quite tight, so I'm going to give this some air and come back to it.
Update: now open 24 hrs. The nose is similar to before and has filled out some - a bit more texture and more creamy. The palate has not really improved: it's got some tart red fruit: cherries and strawberries, along with a bi of spice and red florals - but it's somewhat watery, light, and tart/bitter. The finish is similar to the palate, but with a little herbal and minerality added. Not impressive. Nose - 4.5-5/6, Palate - 3.5-4/6, Finish - 4/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 13-14/20.
Update 2: At about 32 hours, the nose had become more perfumed - quite wonderful. Nose now at 5/6.
Update 3: Now at 54 hours, the palate has finally come around. The nose is still going - it's gotten darker, maybe not as red and spiced, but now it has a meaty component - savory as well. The palate has lost it's bitterness and tartness and put on some weight and depth. It now resembles the nose quite a bit and is just as clear as could be. It enters with crunchy red fruits - wild strawberry and cherry, with a touch of citrus zing and some savory meat and herbs. The meats and herbs lead into a darker and very smooth midpalate, still crystal clear, and then into a plush savory finish, with some minerality. It took its sweet time, but it was worth the wait: Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5-5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 15.5-16.5/20.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ (Alpharetta, GA): Dull ruby, slight cloudiness see through; violets, mineral, fresh, green edge, brighter; purple fruit on the palate, slight olive, not carbonic, sour purple fruit, lots of mineral; soft and delicious; people torn between Northern Rhone and Burgundy.

While one must exercise care in not permitting the enthusiasm that follows early consumption of these Morgons to lead to unrealistic ratings, this is certainly the best Foillard I have tasted. Even better than the aged 2009 . The Corcelelte adds an overlay of fine spice to the sour cherry, dark garnet, slightly sweet fruit and wonderfully acid balance that makes this an overtly exciting wine to enjoy even in its youth. A perfect match for Indian food as well as meat.

Straight pour, opens up at once, without any reduction. Beautifully defined and complex, there's a lot going on here. Bright cherry/raspberry aromas with a raw-meat component, wild roses and herbs, cinnamon and nutmeg. Glides smoothly over the palate with gorgeous fruit, layered texture, great freshness, and energetic notes of mineral, black pepper, and wild herbs. The finish is long and persistent - pure pleasure, with an apetizingly bitter cherry-core twist. This quality in premier cru burgundy would be very expensive indeed. It's so easy to drink and enjoy at this stage, yet deserves to be kept for development. Difficult choice...

Young Morgon (Mostly 2014's) (SF Wine Trading Company): Light ruby. Brett and herbs on the nose. If I had tasted this blind, I would have guessed Guy Breton since the wine was so light and herbal. Difficult to get much fruit out of this. Elegant weight but dry, gritty finish. I almost never enjoy Foillard's Corcelette as much as the Côte du Py, and so it was today.

Nice aromatics. Lots of cranberry with a subtle earthy note. Improved a bit with air, but the bottle only lasted about an hour. Pure and clean with no brett that I or anyone in the group could discern. Medium bodied with good acidic balance. Should improve with age. I haven't tried the regular Cote de Py yet, so nothing to compare to.

Decanted 1 hr. A: Beautiful bright cherry/raspberry, pomegranate, cinammon, clove, a hint of bubble gum with a light joyful feeling. P: Red cherry, strawberry, some blackberry, minerals, bark and a hint of bubblegum. Mild tannins toward back end. F: Follows palate. Nice length. Joyful, almost exuberant. Felt like the lightest wine of Foillard's wine in terms of weight. Nicely accessible.

The nose was beautiful with loads of rosy florals and spices, but on the palate, this seemed more angular than usual, with some tart cranberry acids and missing the typical Foillard silk. Definitely better on night #2, which gives me hope this will come together with time, but it's nowhere near the Côte du Py from the same vintage right now.

New Jean Foillard Releases (SF Wine Trading Company): Red core. Sounds like a broken record, but there's a bit of brett here too that dominates the aromas but leaves a bit of space for a floral note as well. Softer, rounder, lower acidity than the Côte du Py with fruit that leans toward the bluer end of the spectrum. Tremendous earthy finish that is properly dry. Again, as with the 2012 Fleurie, the style was very reminiscent of Breton.

Crystalline violet/garnet color, beautifully elegant, medium intensity, light on its feet but plenty of flavor, hint of nice earthy minerality on the finish. I actually prefer this to the Côte du Py this year - maybe not quite the depth, but to my palate it seems more balanced.

Not sure why the criticism of this has been so harsh- this is brilliant wine, very special, granite (sandstone), fresh berry, plum, sour cherry, fruity but not candied, slight medicinal quality, structured, very young and will get better with a long nap, really shows great qualities of Burgundy and the soil of N. Rhone; need some.

Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvee Corcelette 2014. Aromatisk og parfymert rødfrukt på duft. Noe kritt/kalk her også. Ørlite funky. Får naturvin "feeling" her. Den trengte litt luft for å åpne seg. Meget frisk i anslaget, saftig kjølig frukt og god konsentrasjon. Flott lengde på vinen med fine tanniner. Mineralske elementer med touch av pepper i ettersmaken. Fin sak.

To the eye- perfect garnet/ruby color, excellent clarity, still 'purply' on the edge
On the nose- cranberry, crushed stones, red 'Nibs' candy(in a good way!), some anise, complex and such purity!
