Popped and poured. Nose of blackberry, white pepper and bramble. Ripe blackberry, black plum, pepper, spice and soft tannins on the palate. Finishes with good persistence. Full bodied. Excellent QPR. Served with bison bratwurst.

For Superbowl LV, not a heavy handed Syrah but more subtle, nice, flavorful. liked by several guests. Not sure if there is anyone else making good Syrahs as this $20-ish price point, but would like to hear what others in the same league, as this quality at a price that won't break the bank is a good combo.

Dark ruby, medium bodied, medium concentration berry flavors, mild tannins, nice acidity. More like a Pinot Noir than a typical Syrah, lighter in body and flavor. Very nice.

Dark purple.slightly funky herbal nose, a bit sharp on the palate initially, alcohol spike. Good mid palate energy and finish. Corn husk nuance. Medium acid and tannin, high alcohol mouthfeel. This just needs to settle down alcohol wise to come into balance.

I love the screw cap on this wine. Very fresh, but also very tannic & ripe, almost Petite Sirah in style & texture with an unusual graphite character that i usually associate with Cabernet Sauvignon. Would pair this with grilled steak next time. No hurry to drink this as it could use time to mellow.

Served by the glass. Well, for what it is ... International style with a nonsense of terroir. Excessively creamy, acidity doesn't help as must do. More elegant on the nose with memories of plums, currant and blue flowers. Good definition but without a soul.
Rich inviting nose. Lush with pleasantly sweet notes. Tasty with good mouthfeel and a satisfying finish that lingers. I think this can even improve over the next 2-5 years. Good value here.

Definitely more of a fruit bomb, dark blackberry cobbler with a vanilla ice cream finish; but as far as Carlisle goes, probably the most interesting example I've had to date of a Cali rhone styled SCS. It was almost too big at first, with rougher tannins than I was expecting and though it wasn't exactly hot, the heat was on the edges at all times. Some decent salinity and a very nice long dark loamy finish. Hope it really comes into its own in the next few years, now it's still trying to find its legs (no pun intended).

Grapey with a short finish. Could use more time and I'll revisit tomorrow.86-88 Day 2: Luminescent purple color. N: Black olive, charcoal, black raspberry, with a Northern Rhone feel. P: Sweet black olive, cool climate Syrah, Rhone like. F: Short, but some lingering notes of charred oak and tannin. Medium bodied. Overall, nothing special, but obviously a very young bottle. Day 3: Much more integrated. this still has a black olive component, but with more subtle bramble and purple flower notes. A significantly better showing, with no signs of going downhill or oxidation. these obviously need a lot more time. 90-91, with room for improvement.
Pinots, Carlisles & Imports at the Lake: My favorite in this bunch. So fresh and lively. Boysenberry fruit is accented delicately by savory smoked meat and earthy bramble. Not as concentrated as your typical syrah but showcased some appealing feminine qualities. Very well balanced, with an acidic kick that made it very drinkable.

2nd time I've had this. Dry, tight, concentrated and primary with notes of extracted dark fruit -- primarily black cherries and blackberry, bacon, hint of bell pepper, and cigar box. Picked up some garden herbs on the palate. Full bodied, sweet chewy tannins, good mix of acidity, and a nice lingering finish.

A bit underwhelming to be honest. On day 1, A bit clunky with generic black fruit, good extraction, but not much complexity or lift. Day 2, the fruit recedes a bit to show olive tapenade and a bit of purple flowers, but still none of the wildness that I love in Syrah.

2 hour decant (mag decanter). Nose: Coffee hints complicated by moss and underbrush. Palate: Quite primary with solid acids, dark fruits and a medium length finish. Others have commented on how Mike is shooting for more austerity in his wines and not sure if this was so in 2015 but I do like the restraint that this base bottling Syrah shows. Not to sound like an echo chamber but these $20 buckers from Carlislie are certainly some of the best QPR plays around. So glad to be on this list. 90+ points for now with good potential w/ more ageing time.

Opened about 2 hrs ago, been working through the first glass or so. I continue to appreciate the aromatics Mike achieves in his syrahs, which consistently for me show the garrigue, pepper and some white flower--I enjoy all of these kinds of syrah markers. This bottle is taking some time to open up, which is similar to the last one so my advice for the many who own this wine is to twist and be patient--it needs air to fill in the palate. Tar, with juicy black/blue fruit and some cedary tannin. Tarry finish with rosemary and acidity. Day 2 (left in the fridge overnight under the cap, then let the wine come to temp in the glass today)....more tame than yesterday, now really emphasizing the juicier aspects, with some dried purple flower/potpourri notes here, too. The tannin/astringence from y/day is less, which opens the texture up, too. Still tarry with the same garrigue, bright acid and a wine that is medium to + in weight, avoiding anything boozy and fat. Just a bitchen bottle of $20 CA syrah, which given the style this is made, it makes me nicely forget passing on the 2014 Jamet at $110 each last week. Nice job, Mr Officer.

Holy moly. This was screaming good. Super inky and forward but somehow balanced and light on its feat. If I've had a better $20 red, I'm not sure what it was. Interesting in seeing how my other bottle evolves, but who am I kidding? I won't be able to keep my paws off it for long.

After drinking the '15 Carlisle Zin the night before, I thought it only fair to taste the '15 Syrah tonight. Another excellent offering from Mr. Officer. At this stage I prefer this over the Zin, but only ever so slightly. And the race has just begun. Bought 6 of each...my mistake...I should have bought a case of each. Will I ever learn?

Good, but not ready for prime time. Give it to 2018. Will be savory and full of the meaty flavors that you expect in a Syrah. It had it all. Just needs time to come together.

Dark purple in the glass. Fairly big introduction of dark fruit on entry. A very rich, mouth-filling wine. Savory and meaty mid-palate. Stiff tannin. Good acid. Surprisingly, nice and easy on the back of the throat. It may have many years in it, but drinking it now is a lot of fun.

Tight and somewhat unyielding, picked up notes of red fruit, herbs and olive. Sinewy grippy tannins, moderate acidity and a ended with a short:medium finish. This is young at this stage and will need some time to show its stuff.

A complex nose of raw meat, lavender, black cherry, red brick and creosote. A medium finish and a friendly, almost stately palate that possesses cotton and accentuates the lavender. The depth and richness comes out more and more over time. Decant or wait a year. Drink 2018 - 2030.

This was crushed within an hour, by about a 1/2 dozen drinkers at a work dinner. I brought the bottle, shared it. It opened up with air, and like many of the past bottlings of SC, this showed a mix of olive, purple flower and a black cherry fruit quality with plenty of grip. Not sure how this would have evolved over a day, with more air. Will have to see with the next bottle.

Pretty consistent to previous years, medium red fruits, roasted meats, clove, cooking spice, really nice balance and tail end acidity.

I drank this the first night I got my shipment. Very good, but I will wait a couple of years to try the second bottle.
