This was a good study in that the 2016s need air. At first a bit muted and quite medicinal, this opened up more and more, became more balanced, refined with the fruit becoming brighter and delicate floral notes coming forward. Very promising but needs time and air.
TN: Very intense bouquet with tons of dark cherries, smoke, stems, some menthol. Intriguing but intense and quite ripe nose. On the palate there is a lot of menthol, some medicinal notes, ripe cherries, some smoke and stems atound the red fruit core. Gets rounder and softer with the fruit coming out more and more the longer it sits in the glass. Last sip was best with exploding red berries and floral fruits towards the finish. Lots of finesse and good freshness, airy texture, good balance (with time).
Decanting: At least an hour in a decanter is advised.

At a restaurant in Dijon. Initially some soy-like features. These did dissipate somewhat after we poured this in a decanter, but not entirely. Minty accents surround a darker fruit of sour cherry. Mineral and meaty undertones. But also medicinal and a slightly chemical touch. The palate was one-dimensional, acidity that felt a bit too biting and slightly coarse tannin. This was said to be an off bottle.

Nose: red fruits, raspberry, spices, Notes: this indeed is quite young but it's very aromatic. There's still quite some noticeable oak in the wine. It is quite clear that the style here has nothing to do with the terrior and is more focused in housestyle, therefore this NSG is actually made in an elegant and seductive manner, the nose is excellent with a firm body. I think this will require another 10 years to come around. Nevertheless this is quite promising and should develop nicely with more time. Drink: 2033+ Rating: 91

(at Boulevard - SF) This was lights out. I was a bit worried that it would be closed but no need. There was all the grace and purity I look for from this Domaine with a nice touch of earth soaked red fruit. Already balanced. A super showing to drink over the next 15 years. (94)

Blind. Oser Vosne Romanee. Forførende nese med mørk frukt. Sexy aromabilde. Utrolig leken og syrlig i munn. Har samtidig en skikkelig bra konsentrasjon og ganske stramme tanniner. Noe tight i finish. Ellers helt nydelig. Men altså en NsG. Forøvrig vanskelig å ta produsenten. Mørkere og mer alvorlig enn jeg er vant til fra M-G.

Thought this would be very tight and shut down, but it was surprisingly enjoyable. Very elegant, but still very primary though - needs a decade to show its true colors.

No issues with jamminess, fairly clean and balanced mix of cranberry, raspberry, a bit of iron, and a mild dark chocolate bite. Nothing majestic here but pleasant drinking

Pop and pour. Super vibrant and open nose. Spice, violet, ash, bing cherry and fresh cut sweet mint. Palate is chewy and mouth watering. Black and blue fruits, pomegranate, tart cherry, and sweet tea. Great mouthfeel and very open, floral and feminine.

Wow, I'm glad I decided to pop a young Burgundy (or maybe it's just that it's Mugneret). This had really deep, silky fruit with a bit of almost Vosne like spice that I often pick up in this wine. There is structure underneath and a kiss of wood spice on top but there is just so much fruit that you barely notice. There is a tone of mineraly earth on the finish if you really pay attention. Fantastic.

Lesser 1er Cru from good producers (Imperial Treasure Fine Teochew Cuisne @ Tanjong Pagar Center): Having had a super nice Morey Saint Denis 2016 from Dujac, I decided to give this a try, to have a glance for more 2016. Medium to dark ruby color. High tone, great alluring spiciness and sweet fruits, iron, violet and touch of sweet oak. Fresh minerality, great intensity yet weightless, everything hinted Vosne but it was getting a bit firm towards the end with fine grained tannin that leads 2 friends guessing this is a NSG 1er from a good Vosne producer, spot on! Long with sweet juiciness and mineral. Well done.

La Paulée de NY Grand Tasting (Pier 60 - NYC): A step in density and concentration from the Vosne village. So much rich fruit that is both polished and grippy with structure. An excellent vintage for this wine. Fun now, better in 5-10 years. 92-93+

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. As usual, a cuvee from NSG that comes across as very Vosne-styled. Elegantly spiced with more complexity and textural nuance vs the Vosne Villages, but less density. Very good 90-91 point potential.

Barrel tasting at Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg: Barrel sample. Very good concentration of silky round fruit. Great spice throughout. Really enjoyed this -- so approachable already. Killer. 92-93 point potential.

Tasted from barrel. Good potential but giving some benefit of the doubt as this wasn't showing as well as other wines. Almost a touch too fresh at the moment (sisters pick early, which I like, but this was a little too much...) but I assume this will resolve. Lots of Vosne spicy character as normal from this plot (on north side of NSG with similar soils to Vosne). Guess this will need a fair time in the cellar on release - expect to hold to 2025 or ideally 2030. Will be good but prohibitively expensive for me - I've backfilled on the 2014 now instead. 92-93pts

This bottle lacks a bit of the backbone; too jammy. Time in decanter helps open up a bit stony nuances. 91
