  • This was a good study in that the 2016s need air. At first a bit muted and quite medicinal, this opened up more and more, became more balanced, refined with the fruit becoming brighter and delicate floral notes coming forward. Very promising but needs time and air.

TN: Very intense bouquet with tons of dark cherries, smoke, stems, some menthol. Intriguing but intense and quite ripe nose. On the palate there is a lot of menthol, some medicinal notes, ripe cherries, some smoke and stems atound the red fruit core. Gets rounder and softer with the fruit coming out more and more the longer it sits in the glass. Last sip was best with exploding red berries and floral fruits towards the finish. Lots of finesse and good freshness, airy texture, good balance (with time).

Decanting: At least an hour in a decanter is advised.

  • At a restaurant in Dijon. Initially some soy-like features. These did dissipate somewhat after we poured this in a decanter, but not entirely. Minty accents surround a darker fruit of sour cherry. Mineral and meaty undertones. But also medicinal and a slightly chemical touch. The palate was one-dimensional, acidity that felt a bit too biting and slightly coarse tannin. This was said to be an off bottle.

  • Nose: red fruits, raspberry, spices,
Notes: this indeed is quite young but it's very aromatic. There's still quite some noticeable oak in the wine. It is quite clear that the style here has nothing to do with the terrior and is more focused in housestyle, therefore this NSG is actually made in an elegant and seductive manner, the nose is excellent with a firm body. I think this will require another 10 years to come around. Nevertheless this is quite promising and should develop nicely with more time.

  • Slightly darker and more brooding than I'd expect or prefer.
