From 375 ml. Better than last year’s bottle. Dark and red berries and good herbs and spices. Full bodied and in fact still youthful. Can be cellared at least another 3 years.

Hmm. I have a few bottles of this, partly inspired by JLL's warm words. On opening I found this... A bit dull and a bit spiky at once (don't try to reconcile my language). Half of it was placed in a screwcapped half bottle, and the next day (tonight) it is more polished, inviting - so Mrs D was right, it's not too old, and is perhaps in an awkward phase and needs a little more time. I'll find out in due course....

Nice bottle this. As others have said great QPR. I have not had other years but this is nice CdR. This was had slowly over 3 days and was better on the second and last day so decanting helped this a lot. It could go a few more years yet.

Medium plus aroma of red fruits - cranberry, red plum with baking spice and pepper. On the palate the fruit felt rather cooked. Med acid, med-tannin, hi alc, med+ body, med finish Good to drink now

Imo the 2016 and the 2015 are the best vintages for this entry level wine since 2007. Maybe the 2019 is from the same quality. The 2016 is from my warmer than textbook cellar, reaching 18°C in summer, on a fast evolutionary track. Most of the tannin has been shed and the acids are low as well. So this is on the way to get a bit flabby for my taste. I'm much less optimistic regarding the longevity, than a year ago. 5/12/16/7. -2024 91 points from Joe Czerwinski for the WA, -2023

Bottle #7, it’s identical to the others. 89 on night one, 91 on night two, 90 on night three. Please refer to my previous detailed nites. Drink to 2028? Outstanding QPR.

My 6th bottle of the ‘16. Decanted through a gravity aerator one hour before dinner, re-aerated when served, but it was still tight (88-89) throughout dinner. Much better (90-91) on night two. Fragrant of red and dark fruits and flowers, it is a very savory wine with a nice beetroot finish. Drink to 2028? Outstanding QPR.

Another great bottle. Decanted and served one hour later, it was (as with previous bottles) better on night two. It is strange to recommend a long decant for a relatively inexpensive wine, but that's my conclusion. Previous notes apply. Will drink well for many years.
This vintage is something extra. Would not guess 12 euro on a blind tasting, more like the double. Everything in place here, signs of ageing, soft tannins, refreshing acidity and dark and red fruit are balanced.
A rough and not-quite-ready Côtes du Rhône, no doubt due to its relatively high percentage of syrah (for a Côtes du Rhône) in the 50% syrah/40% grenache/10% mourvèdre blend. Opens up nicely with air. No subtlety here. Just in-your-face Côtes du Rhône.

One hour decant. Just as I remembered it - the same flavor profile. The perfect house steak wine. Superior to the 2017 and 2018 vintages. Not yet at peak. This should last and possibly (slightly) improve for another 5-7 years - at least.
Another delicious bottle, consumed over three nights. Great combination of dark fruits, spiciness and a big acid backbone. It hides its 14.5% alcohol well, but even a blend dominated by Syrah is getting too alcoholic, reflecting the big problem of Rhone growers fighting against the consequences of global warming. Drink to 2025. Outstanding QPR.
I've worked my way through the best part of a case of this over the past year or so and it just gets better over time. Amazingly dense dark ruby in the glass, almost totally opaque. For a simple CDR the nose is really expressive and seductive; stewed plum, black cherry, blueberry, blackcurrant, anise, dried herbs, fresh earth, black tea and a touch of smoke all rise up. The palate is wonderfully deep, textured and balanced with beautiful fruit definition and velvety tannin. Only the slightly clipped and one dimensional finish reminds you you're not drinking a wine that costs three times the price. Guigal in a nutshell.
D+0h: no deposit in the filter nor in the bottle, smells of blackberry D+4h: purple red colour, smells of blackberry, eucalyptus and violets, smooth in the mouth, the 14,5% alcohol are well integrated, has a certain residual sugar, so not completely dry, medium body, in the mouth blackberry, violets and smoke, in the aftertaste blackberry, violets and acidity, good length (30 sec), really good red wine for the price.
Crimson with no signs of age. A dozen bottles later I like this as much as the first bottle. This is still quite young and is going to age well for a decade or so, adding more fruit nuances and loosing a bit of its todays vigor. Unfortunately there is only one bottle left in my cellar. 5/11+/15+/9. 90+, -2028 in a cool cellar.
89/90. PnP an 89 but will probably broaden. Has typical aromas of black olives, chalk, leather light spice, blackberries+kirsch. Its medium bodied solid , savoury and taut nicely fresh black and red fruits palate has very good depth and ends mediumish and a bit unknit. 14.5%. Excellent value at under 10 Euros. Lay down 2-5 years+. Needs 2/3 hours aeration.
Deep ruby. Black fruits, spice nose/palate. Medium bodied, well integrated tannins. Drinking well and very good value. Should continue to drink well for a couple of years.
Subtle red fruit, earth, leather from the nose, maybe some olives. Palate is rather vibrant with acid, slightly dry red fruit, a hint of spices like clove and nutmeg, and medium body. Finish has some drying tannins, dried fruit, black pepper, and is earthy in the “muddy leather” sense. Just a touch thin.
An approachable, solid old-world wine for the new world folks like myself. I’m surprised this is only 5 years old, it’s drinking like it’s much older. Drying fruit, good secondary characters, and honestly drinking on the thin side. Maybe it’s just the 375?
I'm a fan of this generic CdR cuvée and this is another good one but not as charming and sweetly fruited as my memory and TN indicates for 2017. An Asian inspired pairing could have played a part in making this seem more strict. Savoury fruited, concentrated and well balanced as usual. Good.
deep garnet, showing some age now Pronounced aromas Red fruits plum, cherry Oak SPice - pepper Dry, med+acid, med-smooth tannin, hi alc, med body, med+ length. Very smooth and with some great freshness still form the acid, tannins hold everything together Fruit seems to be fading 15
My second and third bottles of the 2016, and much more open and pliant than my first bottle 9 months ago. These were decanted for 30 minutes and served, were immediately enjoyable and were equally delicious on night two. Red and black fruit, good acid backbone, hints of mint, pepper and exotic spices, and firm but modest tannins. This wine has balance, generosity, and a very a nice structure. Drink to 2025. Outstanding QPR.
This seems to have reached its peak now and is a fine, elegant wine, with soft, ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, good weight and quite a long finish.
Appearance Medium intensity, ruby colour. Nose Medium intensity, primary aromas of red fruit, plum and aromas of black fruit, blackberry, hint of spice, black pepper. Secondary aromas include a hint of smoke and wood, maybe also some tertiary “leaves” sensation. Palate Dry, with medium acidity, soft medium tannins, high alcohol and medium body, medium flavour intensity and similar flavour characteristics as on the nose with the black fruit becoming more prominent. Long finish. Conclusions A well balanced wine, with a good concentration and a pleasantly long finish. Perhaps a bit weak on complexity, but overall a very good wine, especially given it can be bought on offer for around £8 per bottle. I preferred the 2015 of the same wine where the aromas and flavours were a bit more pronounced, but the 2016 is still a tremendous wine.

You don’t find many Cotes du Rhône as good as this. Deep intense colour and bouquet. Good weight and taste on the palate and good finish. I was advised to decant and aerate the wine for at least 4 hours before drinking and this certainly paid off. It’s a bit harsh when poared straight after opening.

Nice round red berry fruit. Decent grip and balance. Some dusty tannins on the back end. Not too complex but a solid well made wine at a good price point.

On the nose: plum, strawberry, cherry, dark fruits. Extremely fruity. After 15-20 mins, a bit of oak undertone appears but still mainly fruits on the nose.
On the palate: slight tannin that is not too rough, smooth and easy to drink, medium finish, fruity and not too dry, balanced acid
Overall a decent entry level CdR that is easy to drink (in a good way), unpretentious and does changes a little in the glass as it breathe.

A fairly dark colour; medium weight on the palate, soft, savoury, well rounded and with reasonable length. A good example, just right for current drinking.
Cherry tart, dried thyme, good balance, lovely sweet blackberry, black cherries, pastry crust, with a nice herby finish. I think this has more potential to age than its given credit for. Excellent & great value.

Color - deep garnet with a purple tint Aroma - strong aromas of raspberries, berry jam, sour blackberries, aromatic tobacco, milk chocolate, leather and animal yard. The taste is very pleasant berries! Full-bodied wine with medium acidity and soft tannins. The overall balance is at a high level and even high alcohol (as much as 14.5%) is in perfect harmony with acidity and tannins!
I highly recommend to everyone who is not familiar with the Rhone Valley to start their acquaintance with this particular sample! And for those who are familiar - keep a couple of bottles at home for pleasure.
Blackberry, baking spice. Medium bodied, quite ripe in this vintage, fleshy plums in the mouth. Slightly sticky tannins and plenty of acid. A good fresh finish. Benchmark Cotes du Rhône.

Medium ruby in color. Red cherry, plum, resin, baking spices, forest floor, lavender, and oak on the nose. Tart red fruit, dried herbs, resin, and menthol. Structured tannins and moderate acidity. Tart red raspberries, black pepper and resin on the finish.

With several hours of air, intense bitter cherries and a boatload of tannin. This particular bottle could last for many years. Incredibly delicious fruit, but oh so tannic (surprising for a CDR). (88-90). As I have noted before, although this wine is a great value, there is a lot of bottle variation, likely owing to the large production.
Now at or close to its plateau of maturity, with a soft, well-rounded palate, cherry/black fruit and a slight spiciness. A very good Côtes du Rhône which will make good drinking over the next year or two.
Black cherry, smoke, a bit of violet. Dusty and peppery in the mouth. Medium bodied and silky. Soft glossy finish. Very good Cotes du Rhone, Syrah based I assume.
No contemporaneous notes. 11 bucks at Costco. The perfect mid-week wine to accompany rib eyes. Drinking well now. Not complex, but there is a lot here for the price.
This is drinkable and accommodating, but it really isn't very interesting. Suggest giving it some air, but can't really imagine cellaring it will be worth the space.

Upon opening, mostly cocoa, smoky wood and a wall of thick purple and black fruit - seems almost consciously modern with a vaguely syrupy quality to the fruit. Decent acidity, some ok structure but ultimately it is what it is.
90+.Has nice aromas of chalk, smoke, bacon, blackberries, leather, peppery and garrigue hints and raspberries. Its medium bodied solid, chunky and nicely concentrated chalky lightly oaked and spiced freshly fruited blackfruits palate ends medium long, fresh and a bit dry with the alcohol showing. 14.5%. Lay down 3-5 years. Needs 60-90 mins aeration. Excellent QPR at under 10 Euros.
Rich and sweet fruits on nose and palate, juicy acidity, medium body and length. This is not so much about refinement but rather good balanced power. Really good wine that can last 5 years easily, and a great Qpr if you can still find them. Best vintage I have tasted so far.
Clear, Intensity: Deep, Color: Ruby, Viscosity: High, Rim: Like Center,
Nose:
Clean, Intensity: Medium, Aromas of: Musk, Black Pepper, Green Bellpepper (pronounced pyrazines), Black Cherry, Ripe Cherry, Vanilla, Charred wood, Smoke, Bacon fat, Bay leaf, and hints of Sweet Tabacco leaf. Development: Developing

In Conclusion, a Good GSM Blend with an attack of the perceivable Mouvedre on the nose after the first opening, and then a more classical Syrah intensity is perceived after a quick double decant. Drink 2020 to 2025 90/100 JP
My first bottle of the 2016. Decanted for 30 minutes, the wine was much better on night two, so my conclusion is that it needs a 4+ hour decant to shine. Red and black fruit aromas, great acid sappiness, hints of mint, pepper and exotic spices, and firm but modest tannins. This wine has balance, generosity, and a very a nice structure. It will evolve beautifully over the next 6-10 years. Outstanding QPR.
Lots of red fruit (strawberry, plum). A little spice, pepper and earthiness. Not as full bodied as a good Gigondas or CDP, but hard to find a better wine in this price range. If you don’t like this wine, you probably don’t like Rhones. JD 90, WA 91
Quite full, with slightly earthy and quite spicy fruit, nicely rounded and with a little residual tannin. Very good now but has further to go, and should be excellent in 2 or 3 years.
A bit of a disappointment from a wine I usually like. This one was simple and clumsy, grapey and a bit coarse. A little bit better on the second night as the grapeyness receded and it balanced out somewhat, but still just decent.

One of the perennial best bargains of CDRhone. Varietally correct and drinking quite well now, seems best at about 4-5 years. A little on the soft side, not timid, still enjoyed the fruit and licorice complexity. Acidity enough to make for a good food match. 88 is in the very good category of the CT scale, and that is right where it belongs.
Mid ruby, lots of thin legs Med intensity. Red fruit:plum, cranberry, SPice - white pepper Dry, med-acid, med-tannin, hi alc, full body, med+ finish, plum cranberry, later in day more oak sense. Refreshing balanced despite hi al;c, indistinct fruit flavours, last glass the best tho. Drinking well now, some tannin to develop more. 14/20
This is an amazing value CdR, and in my opinion, most CT ratings are somewhat low. Dark red cherry fruit notes on the nose and palate. The wine has good body and a fairly long finish. Not "port-like" at all, unless you enjoy only the very thinnest of wine. I would buy again without hesitation.
I think the Wine Rating Assistant needs a "Meh" option. Not sure what score to put on this so I won't. I've gone through probably a dozen or more bottles of this wine in previous vintages and always enjoyed it. Had high hopes for this vintage but I'm not at all enthused by this one bottle -- which might be unfair given the thousands or tens of thousands of cases they make. It's not objectionable and functions well as an alcohol-delivery system.
D+0h: no deposit in the filter nor in the bottle, smells of blackberry D+4h: dark as ink, smells of eucalyptus and blackberry, medium body, dry, but not in a harsh way, in the mouth blackberry, smooth in the mouth, in the aftertaste blackberry and acidity, good length (30 sec), a pleasing and quaffable wine without any complexity.
50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre; aged 18m in oak. Medium ruby color. Offers black raspberry, cranberry, oak, dust and hints of game. Medium-full body, red and black fruit framed by chalky tannins, with earth and licorice in the mid-palate and finish. Everything you can ask for in a $13 wine.
Very well balanced. Blackberries, raspberries, black pepper some sweetness w hint of vanilla. Interesting to see what a few more years will do. But very much drinkable now.

From a half bottle. Opened a few hours early based on previous experience. Good colour and a fruity, spicy, almost perfumed nose. My wife found an almost port-like richness on the early palate but it settled down to show plenty of blackberry/blueberry/black fruit with cherries and cherry stones. Not a great Rhone but very attractive and consistent for a high-volume wine. Good next day.
P'n'P, served with smoked brisket and was an excellent pairing. Dark fruits, pepper, a little leather and gamey notes with a hint of earthiness, would benefit from time or a decent, but nice for the price point, seems like a solid value
Tasted from the bottle without a decant. The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, apple and alcohol/hot. It tastes like strawberry, blueberry, apple blossom and lead pencil. The body is light/medium. The wine has angular texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has high acidity. This was quite a dry Cotes du Rhone and definitely needed so time to "loose the edges" Tasted again the next day and was much smoother, for me lacked depth of flavour. For the money, not a bad value.
Plum, herbal and floral aromas combine with ripe and lush fruit to make this enjoyable now. There are enough ripe tannins on the finish to support medium term ageing.

This vintage continues the long series of great value and excellent cote du Rhone reds. Full throttle, powerful and intense, yet keeping harmony. 90 points from Dunnuck and Suckling. 91 points from The WA and I agree. 5/12/16/8. -2027
Love this wine, one of our faves, including at Mon Ami Gabi, one of our fave restaurants. Lovely dark fruit on the nose; on the palate, black fruit, soft leathery notes, mellow black pepper, just the right acidic balance. Would buy this again.
Light to medium weight, with spicy berry fruit; perhaps a little diffuse on the finish. A good example of C de Rh, if nothing out of the ordinary, at least on this occasion.
Fruit driven, you can taste the grenache. Nice peppery flavors too. Medium tannins. Some acidity. I feel like at 14.5%, the alcohol is a little too predominant and hides the other flavors.
PnP. Black purple/ruby. Red and dark fruit on the nose. Jammy, delicious, dark fruits in mouth. The 5th and best bottle (similar to the first) of 6. There appears to be some bottle variation on this bottling, which makes sense as the wine is made in different lots.
Bottle #3 of this vintage. On nose and palate , consistent notes since June, and after a 4 hour decant, more range of expression including notes of Kona coffee and ripe plums...enjoy.

Sweet, floral nose of saffron, violet, and rose over a background of barbecue smoke. Palate shows bright flavours of spiced fruit (raspberry, blackberry, saffron, clove, nutmeg) over a subtle background of damp earth. Well-balanced, with moderate tannin and acidity, but the alcohol (14.5%) sticks out a bit.

Complex fruit, some soil and minerals, NOT a fruit bomb NOR alcoholic or hot. Wonderful balance. I think the equal of the 2015 but the style is slightly shifted with a touch less forward fruit and a touch more soil and complexity. Likely to age well too given the balance. Case purchases are fully warranted!
Drank aside the '15. Dk ruby, bright. More opulent fruit on the nose than the '15. Similar flavor profile, yet more forward fruit. Less concentrated and complex.
medium intensity with a ruby color. Pronounced nose with primary aromas of raspberry, cranberry, plum, mint, strawberry. some vanilla and cloves. tertiary notes tobacco and leather. A very nice wine with med acidity and tannins. on the palate, strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, red plum with a little spice and vanilla. the finish is nice and long! definitely a very good wine!
Opened four hours before pouring (not decanted). A surprisingly big, fruit forward wine with loads of black fruit and hints of leather / oak. Some alcohol on the nose and palate. Ripe sweet tannins and fresh acidity provide good mouthfeel and structure. Should develop over the next couple few years. A great wine for the price.
Personal note - less than £10 per bottle from Waitrose with 25% off 6 or more bottles.
This is silly money for a quality quaffer and I agree with all the positive tasting notes recently. The Wine Society has cases of 12 2016 half-bottles for £71 at the moment which in my opinion is a bargain for a bit of age already. I also love the half-bottle format for a mid-week treat ;-)
The PQR of this wine is downright silly. A nice balance of ripe and underripe berries and cherries, with a hint of leather. Very drinkable and tastes like a $20-25 wine instead of a sub-$15 wine. Definitely going to purchase several more bottles to enjoy on nights when I want to drink a solid red without having a single thought about cost.

Improved tremendously after an hour and great QPR. Nose of raspberry, black cherry, baking spice, currant and black pepper. Full bodied, high acidity, firm tannins and high alcohol. Flavour dominated by black cherry with notes of spicy black pepper, red currant and raspberry. Grippy tannins are really noticeable on the finish of sweet black cherry.
Decanted and drank over 2-3 hours. Black ruby. Aromas of sweet red and dark fruits. Delicious, balanced, sumptuous in the mouth. Grip. Not complex. Nice finish. A great value, and more friendly than the more interesting and slightly superior 2015.
Bottle #2 of this in two months. Happily similar notes on both nose and palate since April. Possibly even fresher and more focused flavours of tart cherries and herbal notes, on a sleek frame....even slightly Burgundian in its clarity.
Very good value for the money. Black fruit to the fore with balance and nicely integrated tannins. Smokey, tobacco and cigar box finish. This wine should go on for a few years yet.
Was able to enjoy this in other than a party setting.
Not much on the nose. Balanced, medium bodied with tasty, red fruit and solid tannins. You'll notice the alcohol, which is 14.5%. Tobacco and pepper on the end? Smooth acidity, medium finish.
You absolutely can’t go wrong at this price. I’ll be picking up some more as it is perfect for an everyday drinker.
Purchased for $13. Translucent ruby. Nose of Earth, spice and dark red fruits. Probably the wrong wine to sip. Needs food. Grapey on the palate. Acidity that would be tamed with food but is overwhelming on its own. Withholding score since this should be consumed with food and I didn't do that.
Quite a deep, ruby red colour; still quite young, with fresh raspberryish fruit, some spice and good depth. A good example which should still improve. Perhaps I should buy some more, as it is good value.
This definitely over-delivers for the price. More ripe black fruits than you would expect, but there’s enough acid and tannin to hold things together. A powerful but balanced wine that can go for another 2-3 years easily. At this price, it’s worth it to lay some down and see what happens. If it goes south, use it in sangria and have a party.
It was OK. I can't have too high expectations at this price point but this was not as a bit more rustic than other CDR's I have enjoyed and the fruit did not show as well. Drinkable but disappointing.

89/90 Has typical aromas of tar, leather , blackberries, chalk, raspberries+cherries+ a little pepper+ licorice. Its medium bodied spherical and nicely powerful lightly oaked fresh black fruits palate end mediumish and a bit dry and unknit. 14.5%. Needs 60 mins aeration+. Lay down 3-5 years to round out the tannins. Food friendly! Fantastic value at under 10 Euros!
Sound commercial super-drinkable red quaffer; zilch on Nose, but I didn't really have any expectations; medium body; in mouth some bitter choc, real fruit profile with soft rich easy fruit (but no intensity), some warm alc; some wood; settled tannins; ready as it's ever going to be at 4 yrs; drink up while the acid is still around, 2016 reportedly a ripe year in Southern Rhone, in fact I think I'd prefer to be drinking this at 2-3 yrs old. Ends well short of dry (med dry).
VFM?.....solid performer for a tenner, buy again but a bit sooner/younger in a ripe year.

Well slightly different than the 2015 tasted last month . On nose: herbs and underbrush notes. On palate:fairly forward for a 4 year old Rhone, with above flavours woven into notes of cherry , some anise and a ghost of cinnamon, lively but smooth acidity on a fairly fullish body......as it warms up notes of cola and meat drippings add substance .
cheers - what happens when you have a great vintage from an excellent producer and they happen to also make "table wine?" You get incredible value and wine for $12 that's worthy of laying down. If you like rhone-style wines, stock up and enjoy for a few years....I'm still drinking 2010 Guigal CDR ten years later....
Spice-driven start with black cherry and plum, roasted meat, olive tapenade, black pepper and floral hints. Medium+ weight, very good balance. Good now, but this should drink well for at least 5 years. An incredibly great value wine.
Light ruby. Fairly closed nose of red fruits, smoked meat and some herbaceous character. M body, M- tannin, M acid, M intensity, H alcohol. Cherry, smoke, raspberry, baking spices, vanilla, toasted oak, baked plum, a little green pepper and mint. Very good
N: Closed; Garrigue, earth, & flowers, hints of iron with swirling? Intensity lurking?
P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which stays in contact with the init frt as if fairly seamlessly, MOSTLY resolves as it transitions into a LONG, BALANCED finish with a tangy/swtness to the few, firming, but at least to me, fairly unoffensive DUSTY tannins. For now with food (IF one can get by the brief, mid-P firmness), then drinking through '23? VERY nicely done! 14.5% ABV; My EXC-, which is on the low side *if* one factors QPR into the equation. [This vendor's $12.95 puts it in the TOP 20% of wine-searcher's postings.]
Truer to region than 2015 or 2014 vintages. Smells and tastes of sweet fruit, garrigue, and wet dog. Fecal. None of these elements fit together so well.

Amazing price quality ratio for the 2016...an excellent vintage for Côtes-du-Rhône! My second bottle within two weeks. Ripe succulent fruit and peppery finish...well-done Guigal! Like a baby CNDP?
Several Tastings today! (Minneapolis, MN): Decant wine for around $15. Raspberries, smoke, earth and spice. Short to medium finish. I would go with the 2017 St. Cosme for a little less per bottle.

Deep crimson red. Decanted 2 hours, served at a wine tasting group.
Nose a bit muted still, initially quite tannic but opened up. Syrah notes dominant. Restrained fruit, some spice. Quite complex and concentrated for a CdR but expected from this producer.
Will maybe benefit from another year or so before drinking.
Seriously good this year. I would actually put this in the 'fine wine' category despite being an inexpensive entry-level CDR. Deep-flavoured and satisfying with a dense saturated sappy mouthfeel and a trace of northern Rhone meatiness. But also something of a crowd-pleaser with deliciously ripe strawberry and blackberry fruit along with plenty of peppery spice, black olive and smoky garrigue interest. 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre.
A deep colour; still quite young, with some rough edges, but there is plenty of rich, smoky fruit. Perhaps a little coarse at present, but it should improve and become more refined.
Strawberries and leather on the nose Perfumed palate, showing some nice maturity Guigal CDR is always good and sometimes very good. I think in this vintage, it's a very good. £12 a bottle.
No serious notes so far as I drank it at a social event. But super fruity at the start but that calms down during the night. But that could be me. About half still left and I will return.
Day 4 and no fruitforwardness nomore. A dusty somewhat bitter note dominates instead. I like it. But I can´t really grade it today. Will be more concentrated for my next bottle.
Ruby to crimson, medium legs. Aromas are predominantly red fruit: strawberry, raspberry, cranberry, plum. Hints of light toast, mint eucalyptus. Does not present as oaky. On the palate, red fruits continue to dominate and spices less distinct. Medium body, medium acidity, linear texture. Just over medium acidity. Impression: a nicely done large-production wine with a longer finish than expected. Large-production as in it seems more than 1 MM bottles made. At $10, QPR is average. Will not hesitate to seek out future vintages at or below $10. Drink now.

5/12/16/7. -2024

My 6th bottle of the ‘16. Decanted through a gravity aerator one hour before dinner, re-aerated when served, but it was still tight (88-89) throughout dinner. Much better (90-91) on night two.

Good.

Appearance
Medium intensity, ruby colour.
Nose
Medium intensity, primary aromas of red fruit, plum and aromas of black fruit, blackberry, hint of spice, black pepper. Secondary aromas include a hint of smoke and wood, maybe also some tertiary “leaves” sensation.
Palate
Dry, with medium acidity, soft medium tannins, high alcohol and medium body, medium flavour intensity and similar flavour characteristics as on the nose with the black fruit becoming more prominent. Long finish.
Conclusions
A well balanced wine, with a good concentration and a pleasantly long finish. Perhaps a bit weak on complexity, but overall a very good wine, especially given it can be bought on offer for around £8 per bottle. I preferred the 2015 of the same wine where the aromas and flavours were a bit more pronounced, but the 2016 is still a tremendous wine.

The taste is very pleasant berries! Full-bodied wine with medium acidity and soft tannins. The overall balance is at a high level and even high alcohol (as much as 14.5%) is in perfect harmony with acidity and tannins!

One of the perennial best bargains of CDRhone. Varietally correct and drinking quite well now, seems best at about 4-5 years. A little on the soft side, not timid, still enjoyed the fruit and licorice complexity.
Acidity enough to make for a good food match.

It's not objectionable and functions well as an alcohol-delivery system.

Very good value for the money. Black fruit to the fore with balance and nicely integrated tannins. Smokey, tobacco and cigar box finish. This wine should go on for a few years yet.

$13 at TW
50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre

Translucent red.
Funky mulchy nose (old oak?). Spice. Raspberry. Glossy, simple, raspberry cordial.
Crunchy tannins and acid bring the light to medium body through blonde spice and salt and pepper mix.
It’s very easy to drink, has reasonable length, but despite the vintage wrap the 15 for me felt a more serious wine from memory.
3.25/5. 88. Now to 2-3 years. This was had next to a Sottimano Cotta 11, so I guess anything feels a bit junior in comparison.
For $20 aud it’s good value for an import.

89, maybe 90 if I'm pushed
Decanted half hour.

Sat, 12/21/19, $2 Tasting (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Should you be interested, I’ve uploaded info for this vintage which you can peruse at your leisure. 😉

Drink now.
