This is real subdued still. Dark, forest floor sort of vibes with a strong raspberry thing coming alive on the second night. The palate shows a dark fruited skin quality. Strongly tannic yet. A more bitter citrus feel on the palate is very present. Hard choice between somewhat closed or just without the power to express itself fully. Again though, for the normale SC bottling this is quite dark, structured and shy. Not as generous as one might usually expect from this bottling but that could also mean its a step up in terms of depth. Time will tell.

Really liked this, more savory than other Pinots. Let it decant about 45 minutes and I think this was just about right. Hesitated opening it so young, but don't regret it!

Popped and poured. Initially a bit tannic and ripe but it found its stride quickly. Dark fruited and delicious. Flirts with going over the top but stays focused. Long finish. A "steakhouse" Pinot if there ever was, but a fine example of the genre.

Tasted at a merchant event, only brief notes: A nice and simple Sonoma Pinot with fresh and ripe red berry fruit matched with an equally straight-forward, well-structured palate.

Wow. Immediately fragrant nose that was simply intoxicating. Palate had an abundance of fruit but not over the top as some Californian Pinots tend to be. Long finish. I can’t believe the QPR on this. Only bought 3, easy case purchase going forward.
Bright crimson in color. 14.3% ABV. Heady nose of dark fruits, citrus, baking spices and forest floor. Full bodied with ample acidity. Bold, rich and brimming with lush fruits. Black cherry, cranberry, mulberry and blood orange on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Really young, perhaps even a touch primary. Delicious nonetheless, but better in 3-5 years.

What a lovely bottle! My second of three; I didn't enjoy the first one that much, so I wasn't expecting too much, and WOW. Beautiful flavors - red fruits, strawberry jam, spices - with just enough of a backbone to tie everything together and still keep the wine light.
I'm suddenly regretting not having bought more. Three years in the bottle did wonders here!
Seems ready to go, from my point of view.

A very aromatic juice. Fabulous aromas of blackberry, dark cherry and even strawberry. Fruit forward for sure but finish changes and the acidity in the wine becomes exposed with fine tannin, even a minerly gritty mouthfeel.

This is the entry level offering from Rivers Marie and TRB. While not my favorite from this producer still a high quality Pinot. Raspberry, oak, vanilla and spice. Medium tannins and acidity. A bit short on the finish. 90 points.

Incredibly tight on day one. Decanted for 5 hours, then rebottled and revisited two days later. Still tight, but much more expressive.
Aromas of exotic flowers, crunchy red fruit (pomegranate, raspberry)--which I typically associate with lighter, more ethereal pinots, but make no mistake that this is a dark, bold pinot despite these notes. Chalky to granitic minerality, touch of herbs.
Bright acidity, youthful fine-grained tannins.
Compared to other vintages of this bottling (2015-2017) that I've also tasted in their infancy, this bottle is more aromatically restrained but also better balanced. I found some of those earlier vintages coming across over-extracted when young. Pleased with how this wine is showing and excited to revisit in 2-4 years. Should hold for a decade.

Had to decant this is tasted initially so closed up, after an hour or so it really started to open; Dark red strawberries, pomegranates, blood orange, liquorice, crushed violets and spring herbs. The palate was broody and deep, with a dark red fruit, Krisch? black tea, firm staining tannins, crunchy stony acidity leading to a savoury, fruit drenched mid-palate with just waves of dark red fruit, this leads to textured finish. This is certainly West Coast Sonoma and occidental in terms of flavour profile, darker than most Sonoma Coast wines, and one of the first 'entry levels' I had to decant. For $35 this is just crazy good.

My initial thoughts, a dark brooding spicy Pinot, with plenty of structure which seems a bit odd for the Sonoma coast bottling which is usually pretty accessible and user friendly. Notes, one hour decant. Black fruits, some hints of pencil shavings and baking spice on the nose. Full bodied, dense black fruits with noticeable acid and tannin on the finish. A bit four square, age may help round this out. On the fence….

Opened 1 hour prior to consumption. On the darker side of the Pinot spectrum but has a nice mouthfeel. Dark red fruits, some underbrush, cranberry all with nice structure. Seems built for the long haul but drinking well at this time with a little air. Also seems to have a savory note to it on the finish. I have been critical of RMSC in the past as being hit or miss, but this vintage/blend seems to hit all the right notes at a great price to quality ratio. Have 5 more bottles and will like to see their development at different stages.

Loads of structure here, like, this thing could easily go a decade plus. Aromatically very alive and shows good earthy, leafy notes with some baking spices in the background. Fruits are on the darker side, and color suggests a bit more extraction here than I prefer personally for Pinot, and the alcohol is quite high, which is somewhat noticeable on the finish. Overall, I still really like the wine, but would love to see a touch more elegance and less heat. Its not about copying burgundy, I still want California terroir, but right now terroir is getting a bit masked, in my view.

Hints of licorice and wood amongst a dark fruited nose of boysenberry and cranberry. Fabulous structure here built with a good deal more tannin than expected. Glassy with a fairly narrow fruit expression. I believe this is from one vineyard. In any case this is real nice in terms of build. Lacks complexity but there is enough restraint from extraction to make this work with dinner. Gonna age a while too with all that tannin. Good stuff.

Pop and pour. Grassl Cru stem. Purple color. Nose offers dark berries, forest floor, and, oddly, some beef blood. Good acidity on the intro opening up to ripe cranberries and blackberries. Hint of rhubarb. A nice fresh wine with some depth suggesting improvement with time in the bottle.

Popped, decanted and writing this note at 30 minute mark. Aromas of cherry, mulberry, strawberry, brown sugar and matcha tea. Flavors of cherry, strawberry, anise, earth and hint of mushroom. Ends with a 20+ second finish with cherry and mulberry notes. A enjoyable wine and certainly worth the money but not a 94 point wine that Wine spectator just rated it.

Let's see what this does with a little ageing. Right now, it's primary, with black cherry fruit dominating, somewhat one dimensional, and on the tannic side for a pinot.
Eh, opened it since I bought a bunch of them this Fall and figured I would check in. In some vintages, the Sonoma Coast is delicious from the get-go, but this bottle was still closed and hard to judge (but judge we must on this app - so today it is an 88 but hopefully it improves).
I don’t drink a ton of pinot, but this has the most pronounced tannin of any I’ve had. Drank over two days, it was better integrated on day 2. It benefits from lots of air. Pleasant nose and typical red fruit/berry flavor of a pinot. Will let the other bottles sit for a while.

Nose: tree bark, dead leaves, unripe blackberry, touch of allspice; not especially expressive
Palate: juicy blackberry, citrus (maybe grapefruit or blood organe); long- finish minerality, dead leaves, very dried herbs, hint of burnt orange peel; dry medium+ body; medium+, slightly chewy and drying tannin; medium+ tart acidity
Overall thoughts: There are some good things going on here, but I think it's bit disjointed and maybe too young (or needs more air). There is nice earthiness here, especially on the finish, and but the structure currently doesn't do much for me with a good amount of mediocre tannin and tart acidity. I'd hope this improves with more air or time in bottle, but pretty hard to be disappointed at this price. Good wine, but certainly room for improvement.
Side note: I recently tasted the 2021 Silver Eagle and Bodega Thieriot Pinots at the winery and those were really great, so, in my opinion, this bottle is not indicative of the the level of success R-M had with Pinot this vintage.
