Gareth's Cru Bourgeois Dinner (Hawksmoor, Guildhall, London): Still quite youthful on the nose, if a touch reticent, showing dark fruit, soil, tobacco. Cedary blackcurrant fruit on the palate, soft tannins, harmonious, some spice and tobacco but still mainly on its fruit, finishes well with some soil notes. Delicious.

Gareth’s ‘Cru Bourgeois’ @ Hawksmoor: Ruby to mid garnet. Proper claret nose. Cedar, cigar box, a smidge of graphite. Fruit on the wain but still harmonious. Cool and poised. Lovely, but time to drink up. ***1/2

Level was HS. Nonetheless, this bottle was great. The wine is mature and shows an excellent balance. It is medium bodied with highly integrated smooth tannins. Finish is quite long. Drink up.

Pours light garnet in the glass. Nose is mature but not terribly compelling or complex of celery seed, old leather, dried cherry, and cedar. The palate is mostly resolved, with medium minus tannin, medium acid and a slight bitter herbal edge. Enjoyable but would not seek out.

Rich bouquet of various black fruit (plum, black currant), spicy (green and black pepper), tobacco, leather, dark chocolate. The 35 year old gentleman can unfortunately not compare with the remarkably forceful 1993 "youngster". The wine is at its best when the bottle is a bit more chilly than normal (say 14 degrees C) and is then allowed to slowly warm up and develop in the glass. As always with a great wine, the last drops are the best and leave the desire for more.

Aged nose, mushroom, cedar, green pepper, roasted currant, leather; more chocolate and leather on the palate, fat and resolved tannin, smooth, probably not getting better it seems to be on a good plateau for a while.

Opens after a half to one hour to an excellent wine. In the beginning more fruity smell than expected. Over the evening turning a bit more into leather, farmyard and earth, but not too much. Very balanced. Taste is long and well balaced, still many tanins left. Can last for at least 5-10 years. Fully the level of medium level cru classe wine

Litt tobakk, men mangler litt av lakrisen og frukten fra gårsdagens Giscours 89. Veldig smooth i munnen, harmoniske tanniner.

Dinner at Mandu w/ the old crew: Wow this has aged beautifully. Everything I could hope for in a Cru Bourgeois from a great vintage. Surprisingly dark colored still, and still plenty of plum and black cherry fruit. Grippy tannins still provide plenty of structure, the fruit is alive and well. Complex notes of soy, fallen leaves, potting soil and herbs. Pretty, holding strong, if properly cellared like this bottle, still life ahead but I like where this is at. Day 2 this was so expressive and perfectly smoothed out and balanced.

Some browning but plenty of red too Spicy, earthy and still vigorous. Lots of warm spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. An almost Southern Rhone like-spiciness and warmth. Stewed fruit and just a whisper of VA. Tannins now fully resolved. Plenty of life here. Delicious with roast beef. What a treat!

A beautifully mature Bordeaux at its peak. Tannins can hardly be felt at this point but the fruit is still vibrant with a nice leafy, green quality to it. Everything is really in its place and the mouthfeel is harmonious and caressing. Even the ladies around the table who usually prefer younger reds enjoyed this velvety classic.

Nez: SU-PER-BE!

level lowermost neck, brittle cork, colour OK for age, nose still lively but showing age, a bit thin and austere, especially for an '85, palate very dry, more structure than fruit, perhaps lost fruit through age but I suspect more a function of the original character, still a good food wine but "strict" rather than "generous" in style, drink up (my last bottle of 6, which is just fine)

Hazy, almost opaque Burgundy color. Pretty nondescript, vaguely musty and mouldy nose. Dry, angular and pretty dead on the palate with musty flavors of TCA. The tannins and acidity stick out pretty badly. Short, tightly-knit and angular finish with prominent tannic astringency and vague flavors of fresh blackcurrant and wet cardboard.
Lightly corked.

excellent colour for age, still black cherry-red, direct, not particularly complex nose, fine fruit, with class, still lively on the palate, distinct hints of the typical hard green character of Moulis, good example, drinking well

Still almost black, but dull orange at rim. Grassy nose, quite full in the mouth, but dry. Tobacco leaf shines through with tannic ending. Good with food, chewy and savoury. Past it's best, but buy again. Lasting well.

2011 Casual Session - 1 @ ES (Extra Space Boon Keng): Youthful dark red color that everyone thought this was a mid 90s. Cedar, cigar box with earth intermixed with blackberry fruits and floral. Sweet dark fruits entry with good weight on the palate with polished texture that drinking quite well with smooth decent finish. However, this not able to hold itself long enough in the glass, and the fruits started to fade in 30-45mins or so with grapefruits like short finish. Still, glad to catch this at its peak, though that's disappeared rather quickly. Buy - No.

Quite a bit of sediment in the glass. Young appearance with a good ruby colour and only slight bricking to the rim. Sturdy, Claret nose, definitely Cabernet, blackcurrant and pencil lead with a strong streak of cedar. Slightly high toned / sawdusty. Good body and cassis fruit, touch of vanilla and some minerality and graphite. Strong acidity leading into a fresh finish with a touch of mint. Still fairly tannic, but with a ripe character. 5-10 years life left here. Would make an excellent luncheon Claret if served with lamb. B+ (CECWINE)
