Opened up in about 30 minutes decanted. Nose started with leather and went to sweet tobacco. This is a very jammy delicious wine. Flavors of ripe black cherries and other ripe dark fruit. Finish was long with the silky tannins holding it up with caramel and chocolate notes. A very enjoyable wine!

I am conservative in scoring cabernets, and this is a very good one that I wish I had more of acquired from a tasting years ago. It does have a hint of cocoa with dark fruits... and I like this in a cab.

I'd give this a 93 for its first hour after uncorking, and dwindling down through the evening and thereafter to an 88-89 on day 2. Consider this a PnP at this point in its lifespan.

Wow. Aged very well. Set out to get to room temp a day earlier. Decanted 6 hours prior to first sip. Elegant, complex smooth wine of mild to moderate fruit. Continues to develop by unwinding, letting her hair down and exploring the space (if you will) . Truly, one could have had 1/3 glasses and sipped slowly over several hours and this wine would have continued to develop. Had with meat and cheese platte lr and it only complemented. A good pairing wine

After a 4 hour decant still plenty of life. While fruit is still there it (and tannins) are finally fading some and secondary flavors like chocolate, eucalyptus and dust are appearing. All in all a nice surprise. Can't wait to open another bottle in 2-3 years.

Deep, dark garnet bordering on opaque in color. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & cassis with lovely overtones of floral, spices & dusty/earthy notes, some coffee, herbs, minty/eucalyptus, tobacco, dark cocoa & a hint of vanilla/oak in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & cassis with spices, herbs, mocha, minerals & a touch of vanilla/oak. Long finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing. At 13 years of age there is still potential for continued development from five (5) years of additional aging if cellared properly.

This is hedonism in a bottle. A two-hour decant reveals elegant aromas of black raspberries, eucalyptus, conifer, wet earth, and Rutherford dust. Succulent, decadent, and tensile, the palate is driven by the give and grip of serious structure, juicy acidity, and layers, textures, and flavors that are imbued with an edge of hard candy resonance. Exotic spices dust the beautiful finish.

This wine has really aged well. The tannins have softened and the acidity has mellowed nicely. Very nice aromas of cocoa, mint, dried figs and licorice. Wonderful layers of toast, black cherries, ripe figs, pepper and mint. Great mouthfeel and a long lasting pallet.

-Bottle served at room temperature (68°) -Cork in excellent condition-very little wine bleed (1mm-2mm) -Decanted for 2 hours and drank over one more hour. -Color: Deep Ruby/Purple. -Nose: Raspberry & Blueberry up front with Leather and Cacao on the back end. -Palate: Blueberry up front. Still a lot of tannins giving it an astringent feeling on the back of the palate. Also Leather and Tobacco on back of the palate. Because of the tannins it was hard to get a good mouth feel. Food: Paired with Pizza (meat/veggie/mushroom combo) with a thin crust. Would also pair well with anything tomato based (pasta, BBQ, etc.). Overall: Except for the tannins, which were still a bit overpowering, this was a very enjoyable bottle which leads me to think that it just needs more time. Suggest waiting 3 more years before trying again with a drinking window that goes to 2025. The deep blue fruit on the front of the palate was a nice compliment to the leather/tobacco on the back of the palate.

Starting to show its age, but still hints of fruit against the spice and leather. Don't overpour or decant, it opens up nicely in the glass, but fades fast.

Showing a ruby color in the glass that hints at its 10 years of age. There's a mild sweetness to the fruit on first pour, though that takes a back seat to the wine's more savory elements with air. The nose opens up and shows some tapenade and faint cedar over the second half of the evening, as the palate displays a tangy edge. Well made and likely at peak.

Great from start to finish. This is in a much better place since I had it last. Not as bold. Fruit is not as forward as it was and it now has multiple flavors. There are still tannins present, but nothing that gets in the way. As these diminish over time this for me could be a 94-95.

Part of a 2004 - 2009 Hewitt vertical. This is in a great spot. Blackberry, mocha, slight eucalyptus. Tannins more pronounced than 04 & 05 to be expected. But they carry the finish on for a long time. This might have another 5-8 years.

Medium bodied dark red/black fruit, laced with some subtle herbal and spice notes. Not sure if it was just this bottle, but it didn't seem particularly heavy, as some of the other notes mentioned. If anything, the fruit seemed a bit lighter than I would have expected from a Rutherford Cab of this recent a vintage.

Double decanted about 2 hours before consuming. Delicious! Very full bodied with lots of blackberry fruit. This was better and a bit softer than the bottle I had in 2011 and still have 2 left that will continue to get better in bottle in next 1-3 years.

Having drank the 2004 vintage recently, the 2006 is where the 2004 was 2 years ago. In a couple of years this is a 93+ wine. Right now it's a bit on the bold side, but with a couple of years in the cellar this wine will be great.

Popped & poured. Nose was a little muted, though after a little while some strawberry scents where coming through. The taste on this bottle seems a to have a bit more complexity. Dark Chocolate dominates the flavors with cherries, plums and strawberries coming at the mi-palate to a medium finish. Oh yeah, the Rutherford dust was definitely present..

The price tag wasn’t small so I was hoping Hewitt’s Cabernet Sauvignon was something special. It was. At the first sip it was special. It was tight and required an hour before the tannins relaxed enough to let the fruit come through…but it was still very structured and had a strong tannin on the palate, even after two hours. The color was gorgeous garnet. While this wine had plenty of body, I thought for a cabernet it was light to medium. The nose was black pepper as the primary aroma, which gave way to equal parts blackberry and lead pencil. The Hewitt Cabernet Sauvignon was an easy wine to think about since it stayed on your palette for a long time. It is a beautiful balance of fruit, tannin, and earth flavors. Hewitt showed great restraint, patience, and class in this beautiful and elegant wine.

Finished off the evening with this bad boy - decanted thru a Vinturi for 2 hours. After the light start, the complexity of the Yalumba, this was just what we needed. straight as an arrow Napa cab - all the best things of 06 are in this right now. Chocolate, cassis, a hint of leather. Not a fruit bomb, medium finish. Went perfect with our beef wellington. Not as good as the 02 but given it a few years and it certainly can be. great value on WTSO - will look out for more.

Cabernet Time - Silver Oak & Friends (Wine Exchange. Orange, CA): A powerhouse on the nose showing a lot of vanilla notes at the moment. Ripe fruit and firm tannins. The wine shows a bit the alcohol on the finish. Another wine with good potential for higher score if it comes together.

Not as good as the 02 but given it a few years and it certainly can be. great value on WTSO - will look out for more.

Big Red! (Sportsman's): Deep garnet color. Tastes of blackberry and charred oak. Tart and bitter finish.
