Excellent mature St Emilion. Only needed a short decant - 1hr - to open up. This is my third bottle - first had hopeless Brett, the next two have been wonderful. Tertiary earthy notes on the palate with resolved tannins and just enough acidity for balance and a refreshing lift. Long finish.

Down to just 3 bottles now and just popped. Wonderful stuff. After about 2 hours in the glass the aromatics opened up. Day 2 even better. Will it get any better? I don't think that I will ever find that out, the last bottles will not last very long.

Drinking next to the Clinet 1996 and clearly this has more structure. This has floral aromas along with liquorice, dark fruit, spice and black pepper. The palate was structured, rich and full with dark black cherries, plums along with pepper, anise, fresh herbs and spice. the finish was more elegant and straight compared to the Clinet, yet I scored them both the same. This still has time to go!

On the red fruit side with herbs, licorice, truffle and leafy aromatics, the wine is fully developed. Medium bodied, soft, fresh and with a dusty, red fruit and olive palate presence, this is easy to drink today. However, it is not a wine to hold. Enjoy it over the next 4-5 years.

Saint Emilion 2000 vintage: 15 years in bottle (Grill Room at the Rosewood): Excellent grip and bright fruit, but there was a certain mustiness to it that grew over time… Note withheld on the Château Beausejour Duffau Laggarrose. I brought this bottle, and when I opened it before the tasting, it showed fine.

Surprisingly with a little bricking on the edges. Has some dullness to the palate with mixed cedar notes and roasted plums. Seems past prime to me given the lack of vibrancy. Spending more time with it, there's the typical brown sugar taste of a heat damaged wine. Purchased from auction.
Decanted for 2 hours. The camphor notes have almost all gone now and the mineralite is really coming through.A stunning wine that I would imagine to be at its best in 3 to 5 years time but delicious now if you don't want to wait.

A splendid Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse. Opens with floral aromatics that descend to deeper notes of steeped blackberry, black cherry, charcoal, camphor and dried sage. Structured, powerful fore-to-mid palate tannin with acidity to match, this feels too young at this point, as though it's not yet fully knit together. Medium-plus finish with herbal notes, and subtle minerality.

Not decanted but opened 4 hours before trying. Its showing pretty well. I would guess it still needs a couple more years to be at its best. A much better nose than previous bottles and a wonderful long mineral finish. So much improved than say 3 to 5 years ago.

Ruby colored with a slightly brick-ish meniscus. Lovely, perfumed nose of ripe, sweet, red & black berries and plums along with some earthiness. Mineral and currant notes appear on the palate. Drying tannins and much leaner than prior bottles. Fruits turn to more dried flavors on an otherwise long and very enjoyable finish. A lot to like about this wine, but it lacked the richness needed to take it to the next level.

An evening with friends at Blue Hill (Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Pocantico Hills, NY): This was decanted for an hour, which wasn't quite enough: three might have been about right. In the glass, no signs of age; dark, deep, purplish red. On the somewhat muted nose, crushed currants and suggestions of cedar. On the palate, currants, cassis, graphite, and secondary notes of coffee and cocoa, coupled with a rich mouth-filling texture and a long finish. It would be nice to see where this is in another five years.

Black currant, cassis, graphite, as Randy would say "cistern" meaning fresh water in a good way, palate is pure, refined and elegant but also on the lighter side and lilth, delicious.

Decanted and still pretty closed but the class is apparent. After a couple of hours it started to show quite well with a good nose and delicious mineral follow through. A day later everything was in the right place with a floral pronounced nose and lingering long aftertaste. I suspect a midday decant for dinner would produce the best result. Its not the first time I have tasted this wine but it is the first time that I have really enjoyed it.

While not the equal of the incredible 1990 vintage, this was a very nice wine. A lot of new world character to this wine as it was rather soft and almost lush, but still with old world flavors of dark berry, spice, earth and oak. Nice balance, a smooth texture and a decent finish. Nothing wrong, but lacks depth and character.

Did not take notes, but the wine was very ripe (especially for a bordeaux) with dark fruits, coffee, licorice and oak. Rich, with a soft texture and deep flavors. A bit more lush, soft and straightforward than I prefer, but overall a decent wine. I keep hoping for a repeat of the incredible 1990, but unfortunately, this is not it.

An easy afternoon with close friends. 2010-02: St. Emilion & Pomerol. (@ FD): Did not give it enough air in the beginning. There was cassis and some lavas in the bouquet. Full bodied and a lot of good cassis in the mouth. A lot of good bitterness as well. Beautiful oak. A few hours later the wine really started to show: Quite complex, red fruits beside the black fruits, some starting signs of maturity. Soft, ripe, but still firm tannin. Complex and with a long finish. Although great already, this wine will improve considerably the next 2 - 3 years and will be great much longer. 91+

First look at this wine. Good light purplish color, no evidence of aging. Initial notes of toasty new oak, and black fruits. Medium-fine tannins kept this in check.
Day 2 Well, unlike some 2000's, the tannins are really wrapping around the fruit, I would give this one 5 years, it is showing good potential but needs time to integrate.
