An unexpected pleasant surprise, this is a wonderful example of a mature Bordeaux, and could not be mistaken for anything else. Packed with blackcurrant, mushroom, chocolate, and leather, the nose is still fresh. The palate has sweetened, and has good depth, but the finish is a little off balance and over acidic. This is still great value and highly recommended. I agree with Sussex GB that this only needs a pop and pour.

Truly lovely wine. Deep crimson red color with ever so slight bricking at the rim. Dense core of dark red fruits with some saddle leather, cocoa and tobacco. With 30 years of age I was surprised to find mostly fruit still on the nose. Completely resolved tannins and a long finish. True Bordeaux and could not be mistaken for anything but Bordeaux. Although this has the stuffing to last a bit longer, I would drink now because the 1990 is in a perfect place if you have well stored bottles.
Side note: started to fall off after an hour but until that point (and even after) it was still excellent

A belter. PnP. Really elegant and what good old claret should be. Everything just so. Resolved tannins with svelte medium body, and a long finish. In its peak now and ahead of the 89 and 96. No rush, but this beautifully aged camphor/leather/drinking chocolate effort is fully integrated, revolved and at peace with itself. Delighted to have more left for the next 5 years if i can keep away from it. Will find some more.

The 1990 La Lagune is a brilliant effort that outperforms in this vintage. Offering up a rich bouquet of blackberries, vine smoke, loamy soil and black truffle, mingled with subtle hints of cigar box, it's medium-bodied, ample and enveloping, with melting tannins, ripe acids and a long, expansive finish. This is an especially velvety, sensuous La Lagune that's à point today.

Deep garnet, some bricking; clear and opaque. Not much on the nose; hints of cedar and floral. Full bodied mouthfeel with balanced acidity, black pepper, smoked meats, and dark berry notes, with tobacco lingering on the finish. Yummy right out of the bottle with less than 30 minutes of decanting.

One-hour decant through a screened funnel; some sediment stained the bottle and was caught in the screen. Cork was still perfect! During decant, wine was moderately fragrant of boysenberries. Wine was clear, garnet bowl lightening to a thin amber rim and a medium clear halo. In the glass: nose was a wonderful combination of mushrooms, forest floor, boysenberry and leather. In the mouth, tannins all gone; wine was smooth as silk. Mushrooms, tobacco and blueberry compote. Finish was moderately long with a leather end note. I had hoped for an enjoyable drinking experience, but the vitality and complexity of this wine exceeded all expectations!

Watching Super Bowl with Walter. Decanted for 3 hours. Served along side a 1989 La Lagune to accompany a savory pork loin roast that Walter had made. Dark ruby in color. Berries and leather om the nose. Superb from the get-go in the mouth. Velvety yet complex. Evolved during the game, but remained at high level until consumed. Must be at peak.

Slight bricking at rim; clear from center to rim. Coffee, cigar box, currant, raspberry, fig on the nose; a little pepper and spice. Full body, solid tannins, good acidity. Tasting more woodiness and coffee first, then plum, fig, currant as it lingers. Drinking well; curious to taste again in 5 years.

The cork was in horrific shape--just brushing it with my finger was enough to make it crumble! But, with time, care, and imagination, I was able to get it out safely (I absolutely did not want the wine to have any additional contact with that cork!), and, to my surprise, the wine emerged in good shape, although probably older than it would have been in a bottle with a better cork. Initially, this was very light-bodied and acidic, distinctly "old", with smells and flavors of plums, cherries, leather, and roses, as well as delicate hints of chocolate and smoke. The clue that this wasn't the whole story was the aftertaste--much much longer than expected, and ending on a wonderful note of cocoa. After about 20 minutes in the glass, it had transformed into something very different, a lovely medium-bodied wine, and a much younger seeming wine, elegant and graceful, with chocolate, plums, and roses at the fore, and the earlier leather and smoke completely gone. My guess is that, especially in bottles with corks in better shape, this will last at least 6 more years, probably longer. Just lovely.

This was a surprising stunning wine - aromatic, balanced, silky and smooth yet powerful. It was everything you hope for in a Bordeaux and a great example of the winemaker's art. You could say that it was darn good, but you would be wrong. It was much better than that. It was clearly the WOTN that went beautifully with all of the outstanding dishes (from starters through desserts) and outstanding service at P. O. Press in Collierville, TN.

10th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, fruit diminished, liquorice, iron and road tar more prominent, a bit short and lacking nuance following a rather immature LLC 96, a hard act to follow. Downgraded to F (17.5).

90% soaked cork, but easily extracted whole using a Durand. Fantastic nose of sweet black currant and berry fruit as well as creosote, freshly laid gravel and oak spice. Absolutely delicious palate that's still full of sweetness and fresh as a daisy! the flavors echo the aromas with zingy acidity that seems to be providing most of the structure at this point bc the tannins are completely seamless, but present. Best now, this has a few years left for sure! Drink now-2020+ 93

Showing exceptionally well. At first a very sweet Licorice Note dominates - very Musar-like. But after 2 hours in decanter this has faded leaving a deep, long, complex and delicious wine. A very slightly stewed fruit Note doesn’t take away from the wine. Cigar box Note as well. Really at peak.

Cork split in two on pull but this was still very much intact. A capitvating deep ruby red with a faint nose of concentrated fruit, gravel...it had a distinguished palette, with fruit still alive to the taste. Pepper spice straw and some licorice. A grand old dame that still impressed.

8th of 12, decanted an hour, level into neck, travel on cork, previous bottles fine or better - medium deep garnet, development on rim; very perfumed, attractive cassis and flowers cut with a little cedar and ? lavender; medium bodied, long persistent and perfumed, quality if not particularly complex fruit, nicely balanced and gluggable, no reason to keep, higher on pleasure than technical evaluation! Just about fine plus (18).

Early Xmas Dinner with the family (Home in Aberlady): Lovely dark ruby, fading to edge. Amazing nose, berries, flowers, incense and wood. Plenty to solid dark berry fruit. Great colour to this. Almost still ruby, some discolouration around the rim. Pronounced intensity on the nose. Leafy, gravelly, stoney mineral like aromas jump out first. Behind this there is are lovely plummy, blackberry and black cherry fruit aromas. Others in the group felt that red fruits were more noticable. Also showing tobacco and some mint. On the palate, medium+ body, pronounced flavour intensity, medium+ tannins that are beautifully integrated into the wine's smooth texture. Medium finish. Not hugely complex but very well done and extremely drinkable. Very good.

fully mature Bordeaux that is drinking very nicely right now.
ruby color with just a tinge of amber starting to show. initially scents of tea and some mushrooms, then a berry component emerges. It is retaining its fruit with a nice sweet entry that coats the tongue, then a balancing acidity kicks in. It is neither powerful nor complex, but well integrated and delicious on its own or with food
if you have it in your cellar now's the time to enjoy it

Bordeaux 1990 plus some extra's (@ VadM): Beautiful mature bouquet with tobacco, red as well as black fruits as well as beautifully integrated oak. On the palate full bodied and, after some air time, ripe black fruits. The tannin is beautifully integrated with still a good bite. The wine has a great length. Drank this wine beside Cos d'Estournel 1990, which was nice as well, but 4 hours later, Cos had become tired and maybe even a bit too old, but this la Lagune was still going strong. The drinking window in CT says until 2010 at the moment, but the bottle we had tonight would definitely still have been great in 2016.

A lovely wine, smooth and delicate with lots of mineral and iron. Nicely mellowed with a long drying finish. Tobacco, earth, herb, red fruit. I think this wine has lost some of its sweet fruit so I'd drink sooner than later, but it's not falling off a cliff. Drinking nicely now. full of class. B+

Transparent dusky amber red colour .....showing more age than I would expect for a 1990. Nose is realy nice high lifted acetone followed quickly by plummy ripe fruit and lots of damp recently rain-wetted soil. Palate is very nicely acid and warm fruit-balanced....initially rich blackcurrants but within an hour fading into ripe plums...then segues towards distinct tobacco leaf and fully-resolved and now powdery tannins. This has an earthy and belly-filling fruity satisfaction that is on the cusp between secondary characteristics and fast developing tertiary charactistics. I doubt this will do other than fade from here......which is quite surprising when compared to the 1982, which is a much brighter and less developed wine. This is added anecdotal evidence to my developing thesis that 1990 has far less ageing potential than originally supposed. That said, this is a very enjoyable, old-fashioned claret which drinks beautifully now.

1990 La Lagune is a classic wine. It has a very beautiful scent of earth/Haut-Medoc terroir. Just ready to drink, delicious and good finished. The best example of Grand Cru from this area. I should buy more.
This has always been a fantastic wine, and still is. There is still plenty of soft, lush fruit which is well balanced by acidity. Still a few years left I think (depending on storage conditions of course), but obviously not improving.

Still quite a deep colour, some bricking at rim, the sweetness on the nose is followed through on the palete, where the predominant taste is of sweet, fully mature fruit, now just beginning to dry out. Slightly one-dimensioned, but still a very satisfying classic claret, which held up fairly well on the second day when we had the remaining half bottle or so. Definitely to be drunk up over the next year.

From 750ml. Decanted for 15 mins then poured. Good brick red colour, no brown edge. Nice rounded nose, not a huge amount of fruit but balanced and with classic leather notes. Opened up in the glass, still some traces of tannin but fruit has receded to give a rounded, good medoc wine with a decent length of finish. Perhaps a bit lean compared to other wines from more well-known communes, but classic in a La Lagune sense. Good match to roast pheasant and still very much intact. Drink soon though.

Drunk from 750ml. Cork disintegrated on pulling so decanted and served immediately. Brown tinged colour but still some brick red, nose was still intact but fruit receding. On the palate, much better than expected with some classic Bordeaux leather and a touch of iron. Not much fruit left and it fell apart quite quickly in the decnater. Ageing fast and not nearly as good as a bottle opened a few months back. Maybe the cork wasn't perfect but my advice would be to drink up now

Opened and then decanted 1 hour before drinking. Remarkably clear and bright brick red colour, depsite age. Nose was elusive but unmistakable Bordeaux. First taste (straight after decanting) showed a little fruit but unbalanced and acidic finish. After 1 hour the wine opened up and balance returned. Not a huge amount of fruit left but very direct, very good drinking claret, if a little austere. Not as over the hill as other reviews I have read but needs drinking now as there is not much tannin left to support the age and the fruit is only going to recede further. Will enjoy the remainder of the case if the other bottles are as well balanced.

Much richer and deeper in its fruit profile than the '82 with ripe plum and cassis flavours beneath savoury earthy, leathery and faintly balsamic notes - though this also doesn't have the polish and seamlessness of the '82, and feels a little awkward in the mouth.

My last bottle from the original case. All 12 were great! Fully mature, with scents of tobacco, flowers, spice, blackberry and cassis, this soft textured wine will not awards for concentration. But it earns kudos for elegance and charm. This should be consumed by 2015 as it will probably start to decline by then.

An enjoyable wine. Saddle leather and dark berries. Had along side some first growths from the better vintages of late 70's and 80's and whilst it didn't have the complexity, the Lagune was drinking well for a 20yr old bordeaux.

Still a deep purple color with a nose that is classic cabernet of graphite and red/black fruits. The wine has a surprising amount of fruit for being 19 years old, yet the tannins are very smooth and mellow. Had a terrific finish that lasted for almost 45 seconds. This was a crowd pleaser and such a bargain!

Last bottle (sadly). Have been trying, thanks to CT ratings and estimated drinkability window, to work on some of the older wines in cellar. This wine is a perfecct example of why one worries less about 20 year old bottles from Bordeaux than other locaations. Classic barnyard (but pleasantly so) nose and vibrant color and flavors. Mature but not past peak. Enjoyed at Black Dog Tavern. Contrast to last night '90 Prunotto barolo Bussia, which was clearly past its prime-smell too 'sweet', waterly looking and little fruit. Don't drink (or own) very many barolos, but hope the rest are holding up better than this.

Bordeaux Tasting ("Chateau McClure Roberts", Philadelphia PA): more aromatic than the 89, this showed some fruit on the nose -- blackberry most prominently. still some greenness on the nose, mixed in with secondary notes of tar and leather. palate shows well, with some development still ahead for this. leather and blackberry with an interesting viscosity that makes for a very pleasant mouthfeel.

Very good.

ruby color with just a tinge of amber starting to show. initially scents of tea and some mushrooms, then a berry component emerges. It is retaining its fruit with a nice sweet entry that coats the tongue, then a balancing acidity kicks in. It is neither powerful nor complex, but well integrated and delicious on its own or with food
