Almost 300 reviews so I’ll keep it brief: this wine is still going strong and exhibits some amazing multi-dimensional fruit but came up just short on some of the backbone to support it. Still, I almost rated this 94 points because the wine developed very well just by sitting in the glass for an hour. Wonderful notes of black currant, cassis, sweet tobacco, just all very pleasant and even displayed a little interesting rosemary and mint later in the evening. Needs just a touch more tannin, but otherwise very enjoyable.

Time has been so good to this wine. Starting to show some tertiary character. PnP. Amazing nose with blackberry, black raspberry, spice, anise, tobacco, earth and cedar. Still has a rich palate with blackberry, black raspberry, tobacco, spice, cedar, earth. Good acidity leading to a smooth finish. Soft tannins in the finish. Really good now, not sure if its hit is peak. No hurry to open my last bottle.
so so good and even better than it was a year ago. Once again, at this point it remains the best regular estate cab i've had from pride. I have one more and will wait a few more years. It's right up there with the reserve cabs they make. I had the reserve 2009 cab a couple years and have one left. I think the reserve is just a little richer than it and has a deeper flavor but this is really good. would be nice to have them side by side.

While I love almost all Pride wines, this still exceeded my expectations. Yes, tannins not present like the reserve, but it has alluring nose and extremely smooth and pleasing medium fruit taste. Drink now, but wish I had more.

Celebrating Opening Day and a Blue Jays extra inning victory with one of my favorites!
1hr decant. Dark red color. Restrained nose of cedar, cherries, and chocolate. Wine is complex and I could swirl in my mouth forever. Has high end Amarone elements. Medium plus finish. Paired nicely with duck. Loved it!

decanted ~2hrs; bright ripe berries with some earthy notes; ripe juicy fruit even after 12 years, medium tannins, nice balanced acidity, full mouthfeel although probably past its prime, round, smooth luscious finish

Same as it always was. Well, not exactly, because the tannins have faded considerably. Still delicious, but a little too soft to match with really hearty foods. Probably time to drink up.

My last bottle of this vintage, and I have enjoyed them all. Opened, at home, with my wine group, for a Jambalaya dinner. The fruit notes complimented the spicy sausage in the Jambalaya very well.

Not quite as impressive as the bottle I had last summer, but still mighty fine. Silky tannins, and although the nose seemed more reticent on this one, the finish seemed to have improved. Holding up well.

Pre New Years Red Wine for Steak Night (Bobby Van's on Park, NYC): Opened but not decanted at a NYC steakhouse with my wine group. It was the group WOTN. A big "in your face" fruit forward wine. Full bodied, with a medium plus length finish. Even with all the fruit, it didn't overpower the food.

Drank with Christmas Beef Roast. Decanted about an hour. Nose on initial opening had a bit of earth tones, and it really needed some air. First sip was a bit disappointing, as it tasted past it’s prime and a bit off. Not sure if it’s just this bottle (because bottle opened last year was amazing). Got better after a couple hours, however never reached level of greatness we’ve had with older Pride previously. I would say based on this bottle, drink now & no reason to wait longer.

From magnum, courtesy of VM. Eucalyptus, currant and raisin notes. Plummy dark fruit on the palate with hints of ripe prune. Tannins are slightly coarse. A touch more of the raisin and prune elements than I typically care for.

Tasted from Magnum. Sourced from 67% Napa and 33% Sonoma fruit. 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. 14.6% alcohol. 5270 cases made. Rather integrated with solid tannins. Notes of eucalyptus, plum and cherry. 93 points.

Very disappointed with this bottle. Perhaps we got a bad one. Decanted for an hour. Tasted flat and a bit sour. Seems to be past its prime, but other reviewers on line are enjoying it.

PNP and really enjoyable after a few minutes exposure to air. Vibrant with red fruits, chocolate, tangerine, cinnamon, slightly grainy tannins. A really nice wine in its own right and one of the all time QPR stars I have tasted.

Absolutely delicious. Lots of fruit left, has mellowed a little over time but still definitely full bodied and has that great distinctive pride taste. Probably my favorite vintage of any of the regular estate cabs.

Eight years. What can happen in eight years? Well you can place a bottle of wine in your cellar in 2011, not think about it, but somehow watch the world change around it. Then on a regular night with a regular prime filet, this wine traveled through a time warp and was plucked out of said cellar. Now, Pride Vineyards is a time-tested and relatable wine. You can take a sip and memories will spill forward, like the time you went up Pride Mountain and had one foot in Napa and one in Sonoma. Time travel is possible when you drink this wine. It is like a chocolate covered cherry. Sort of starting with dessert, then traveling back to an appetizer through each sip. First, you taste chocolate - Dessert. Then you take a bite of your filet - Dinner. Then another sip where there is this hint of fruit, like maybe a salad with a bit of fig in it. Appetizer. Bam! You have traveled back in time. But to a good time. Then you get to do it all again with the next sip. Great wine, great vineyard, great memories.

A 2008 we had a few weeks ago was tired and over-the-hill, so I thought I better get to work on my 2009s. My concerns were misplaced, because this bottle was wonderful. Opened about an hour before drinking. All kinds of berries on the assertive nose. Mostly blackberries on the palate, along with plums and cocoa that showed up on the finish. Quite rich (naturally), but with minimal viscosity. Nevertheless, it had a terrific finish, driven by the humongous fruit. Beautifully balanced right now - the tannins are still there, but they're silky and refined. Not a whole lot of secondary flavors (yet), but it's just a flat-out delicious wine. Needless to say, it's holding up well and may not yet have hit its peak.

All we have come to expect from Pride! This wine is superb. Dark berries still present. The tannins have softened, but are still present. The balance is excellent. I can't imagine this wine getting any better. Sadly, this is my last bottle of the 2009 releases from my first visit to Pride Mountain Vineyards. I have plenty of others, just not of this vintage. It is leaving a lasting impression though!

NR as we took this among several bottle to dinner at Menlo CC, and this wasn't drunk at all so we left if for the kitchen folks (hope they enjoyed it)... remember thinking that this wasn't as big as other Pride's I have had, not my favorite style but this bottle (when I put back in bottle after 1.5 hours in decanter) was more understated than most Pride I have tasted

Power and elegance. This '09 is still youthful with a wonderful expressive nose that leaps out of the glass. Balanced flavors of rich ripe blackberry fruit, cocoa, racy black pepper and velvety tannins. The lengthy finish lingers with all the wonderful flavors. Drank now for it's youthful exuberance or keep cellaring for many more years.

Tonight I decanted it for 2 hours prior to pouring back into the btl for convenience on our deck and to give it just a bit more air via the double decant. There was some sediment left in the btl to clean out before refilling the btl. Fantastic early nose of violets and fresh red fruit aromas. Eventually it settles into cigar ash & mature fruit aromas. This is, as usual, large scaled and yet; fresh, vibrant and balanced. A richly fruited panoply of classic cabernet flavors such as cherry, raspberry, cedar, dark chocolate and tobacco. Unmistakable CA ripeness but Pride cabs never feel jammy. A pretty spot on pairing tonight with our once a year BBQ pork ribs menu. 14.5% Alc but feels more 12% - 13%. This is my last 2009 and no regrets about opening. No idea if this will gain complexity but I have doubts. Its pretty darn tasty right and showing some mature complexity. Tannins and oak are well integrated and resolved.

Opened as a nice sipper with some delivery food last night. We only finished about half of the bottle so assume we'll go back to it in the next day or two. I am incredibly impressed with the QPR on this. Great napa mountain fruit. In a nice place right now too. Pnp'ed and while it was continuing to open in the glass it was approachable from the beginning as well. Nice balance between fruit and earth. Would buy again.

Excellent cab. Very young still. Tannins high but softened after breathing. Opened 3 hours before consuming. Probably should have decanted. Dark cherry, violets, tar, cedar. Medium but strong finish. Probably should let age for another 5 years.

Ah yes just as I remember from a visit a few years ago. Outstanding Napa Valley fruit from one of my fav's. This hits just the right balance of classic cab cassis, black/blue berry, new/old style, and with enough complexity to make it really kick butt. Solid.

This has integrated well since our tasting at the winery in 2012. The tannic mouthfeel has resolved to a structured wine. Structure leads followed by bramble, red fruit, and spice. Good length on the finish with a bit of complexity. Overall this walks the border between old school mountain Napa cab and newer, more fruit forward cabs with managed tannins. Very good for the style, but I tend to prefer a juicer cab. Definitely improved since 2012... so I'll age the 2013 pride cab I have for 6+ years before trying...
Opened to celebrate Gavin's baptism.

Wanted to check in on this since it's been a few years and we have quite a few of them. Opened, decanted for prob ~1 hr and drank side by side with a 2001 Henscke Mt Edelstone. Of the two, I was in the Henscke camp although I watched the table a bit to see what people were drinking down and it seemed to be more of a split read. This was certainly lovely - standard Napa mountain fruit, good pepper in there, a bit woodsy. Well balance and a very nice pairing with a grass fed strip steak.

I let this breathe in the glass four hours. Deep purple color. In a good place between youth and welcoming. This wine is endowed with a predominantly creamy cassis note followed by blueberry skin and a creamy oak finish. My cellar is Wisconsin cold (60 all year in a north side nook), but passive cellar. Integrated, mostly melted tannins. Round and smooth. Super. Lux, full mouth feel. 93. This was great with a garlic peppercorn seasoned filet mignon and WI cheddar smothered grilled baked potato.

Thank goodness I waited a day to finish this wine. An afternoon margarita ruined my palate for the first glass.
VERY GOOD - couldn't develop a nose profile as we dined outside and the wind was uncooperative. Wonderful wine on the palate. Wonderful dark caramelized red fruit with hint of red cherry. The tannin was a beautiful balance of silky smooth and the right amount of chalk to give a long and very full mouthfeel.

This is not at the same place that it was last time I has it...in a bit of a clumsy and awkward state. More ripe and fruit-forward than I remember, missing a bit of structure. I'm sure it will come around. Popped and poured, I'm sure a decant would have helped, but I did taste it the next night after I gassed the last third of the bottle, and it had not improved.

You know this was pretty good. I think I expected more from this and was a bit disappointed. 2nd best wine of the night. Some blackberry, blueberry, blackcherry, cedar, and vanilla. This fell flat for me. Didn't have the structure or the backbone I like. More medium body and I really enjoy medium to heavy bodied wines. The finish was gone too quickly and I wonder if this will improve with age.

Awesome Dinner with Friends (Erasmus, SQN, Saxum, Pride, Dehlinger++) (Out and about): I think Sally J was the winemaker by now (not sure), but this is really nice. It is a much softer, less powerful, less oaked wine than the 01. A nose of cassis and dark cherries. complex on the palate although tightly layered. Long smooth finish. Food friendly.

PNP. Opened up after an hour. Won't open another for at least a year. A little tight. Given a couple more years, this will be drinking very nicely. If you choose to open now, give a proper decant.

Well made Cabernet with great future ahead of it. A bit tight today and made in a more reserved style than prior Pride's but not in a bad way at all. Tannins are definitely present and will need some time to back off. Drinkable now but will improve with age. Pride continues to turn out great wines with Spring Mountain terroir.

Black cherry, mocha, vanilla, tabacco, and a touch of mint are developing nicely on the nose. The palate is still pretty tight and the tannins a bit grippy. Everything seems to be in balance. The finish has gained some weight since the last time I tried it. Probably going to sit on the remaining bottles for a few years.

Aromas of dark berry, with notes of cedar and oaky spice. Full bodied, balanced acidity, dark red and black fruit is pronounced but not overbearing in the least. Add to that earthy notes and cocoa on the palate, hints of caramel, brambles, and a fleeting whiff of mint or camphor as it airs out. This was decanted for less than an hour, but could have benefitted from as much as 2 hours of air. Even with the youthful exuberance in effect, this is a well balanced and substantial effort. The tannins were a bit grippy on the finish, but that will even out with a few more years. I'd wait till late in 2013 before sampling the '09 again, but if you can hold out till 2015, you'll be rewarded over the next 7-10 years thereafter.

I've visited Pride 4 times and always love the setting, the general vibe and of course the wines. Pride hysteria has settled down significantly from the frenzy days on the WS board about 8yrs ago when everyone was counting how many btls the board collectively had purchased of the 01 vintage and people were going bonkers to "get on the reserve list". I've backed off significantly because like all CA wineries you could spend your whole budget at one winery trying "to maintain list status." Now I buy a few reg Cabs in most vintages and occassionally one or two Merlot or Cab Franc. Don't need a ton of Pride but I'd truley miss not drinking a btl or two every year. One of the very few CA wines I still buy and always enjoy. The '09 is great and now I'm thinking I may try to get a few more. BALANCE, great mountain fruit and depth. I'd love to pay less but $66 still seems semi reasonable. I decanted for an hour and poured back into the btl and recommend this as the oak is slightly out front right now. Maybe even a few hours wouldn't have hurt.

True to its mountain heritage. This Cabernet stands out with its nuances of minerality, earthiness and nuttiness perhaps?. Rich in flavors yet seems light on its feet, it lacks the body of a well developed wine that only age brings. Overall a truly unique cab. Bound to improve for sure, another wine that I would much rather drink 5-10 years from now than today, save your bottles.

nose - cedar, bramble/berry, hint of cocoa mouth - very nicely balanced and already drinking very smoothly, lovely round and polished fruit on the attack, some midpalate spice, with dry fine backend tannins. Tanzer nails it on the head by picking out the 'minty blueberry character'. good stuff from Pride, no surprise there.

Honeymoon Wine Tasting; 6/25/2012-7/3/2012 (California - Napa & Sonoma Counties): Tasted at Winery. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot. Dark purple in color, with aromas of black currant, bramble, blackberry, and cherry and additional flavors of spice and berry. This wine currently has a slightly tannic mouthfeel, and will benefit greatly from a minimum of 1-3 yrs ageing. The finish is moderate/long, but lacking complexity at this point. I could easily see this wine as 93+ in 2+ years.

1996-2009 Pride Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon vertical tasting (Monterrey, Mexico): The ultimate prototypical mountain cabernet. Very distinctive nose that nearly overwhems you with the purest montain berry fruit and a hint of green bell pepper that does not cross the treshold into the nasty herbaceous spectrum. It reminds me of a lot of Maipo Valley Cabernets. Very elegant, with excellent acidity and very terse tannins. I ignore whteher this newfound elegance is the product of a cooler vintage of a new wine making direction. I was very tempted to vote this wine as my favorite of the flight, but the 2006 contined to flesh out and improve all night long. It received one vote for wine of the flight.

Beautiful nose of brown sugar, mocha, black licorice and new oak with only a touch if heat on the end. The palate is very soft and supple. Beautifully integrated tannins and acid make this wine feel like silk in the mouth. The palate offers dark fruit, current a bit of earth. Its still a little wound up even after decanting for 1.5 hours. Finish is semi long but lacking. This wine has great potential, but give it another year or so to finds it's legs.

Integrated, mostly melted tannins. Round and smooth. Super. Lux, full mouth feel. 93. This was great with a garlic peppercorn seasoned filet mignon and WI cheddar smothered grilled baked potato.

VERY GOOD - couldn't develop a nose profile as we dined outside and the wind was uncooperative. Wonderful wine on the palate. Wonderful dark caramelized red fruit with hint of red cherry. This fell flat for me. Didn't have the structure or the backbone I like. More medium body and I really enjoy medium to heavy bodied wines.

In a tasting of 6 Spring Mountain Cabs, this was the runaway favorite. Wonderful wine and a solid value.

Loved it! (2 hr decant, 2 hr dinner) had it along with a 07 Silverado Solo from Stags Leap dist. while the Pride is great I think a little celler time will help smooth the tannins.

Very nice wine. Good structure with flavors of cherry and strawberry. It's good now but will be outstanding in another 2-3 years.

The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Slow. It smells like Blackberry, Blueberry, Black currant (cassis), Medium Toast, and Lead Pencil.

Yo. The right stuff: vanilla, cocoa, mint, white pepper and jammy fruit. Astounding nose. I think of Pride as nailing Merlot -- reliably superb -- but this Cab and vintage has changed my view.

nose - cedar, bramble/berry, hint of cocoa
mouth - very nicely balanced and already drinking very smoothly, lovely round and polished fruit on the attack, some midpalate spice, with dry fine backend tannins. Tanzer nails it on the head by picking out the 'minty blueberry character'. good stuff from Pride, no surprise there.

This is a good wine. Right from the start, vanilla, spice with dark berries. Color is deep and sustained. Good fruit, nothing detracts from it and nothing overwhelming, well-balanced. No problem with pricing it up.

Currant, licorice,, raisin, and chocolate. Powerful, with still chewy tannins. A deep brooding Cab.

- Purple color and aromas of blackberry, violet and oak. It's balanced and has flavours of black currant and oak with a medium/full body. Juicy texture with a medium finish.

We visited Pride Mountain Vineyards when we were in Napa in May. You should really take the tour there if you are ever in Napa. This is a great wine for 2009 Cabernet. Ready to drink with dark purple color and good nose. We enjoyed it with a nice filet and corn on the cob!!!

A deep rich dark wine that will get better with age. I wanted to try one of the six. Rich ripe fruit, and a nice mineral component, a bit of tannins that should mellow out with age.

Nose can best be described as "classic Napa cab". Good body, lots of stuff going on. Good fruit, great structure, a little rough, but seems like the kind of thing that is just growing pains. Nice finish.

Barrel tasting on a great tour- if this is any indication of how the bottled wine will be, highly rec. Did not taste that young, mild tannins, smooth, great fruit.

Tasted from Barrel. Even at this young stage, the Cab was really impressive. It had layers of dark fruit flavors with chocolate woven in.
