Château de Rayne-Vigneau, 1er Cru Sauternes, 2018: WOW! I was a fan of the 2014, but this one takes it a few steps ahead. Bright gold in color. On the nose, a bursting bouquet of fresh orange blossom, honeysuckle, melon, candied lemon, ginger, and vanilla bean. Medium to full-bodied, with great intensity, concentration, and tension. Creamy smooth in the mouth, this mouth-watering Sauternes explodes with layers of flavors that come in spectacular waves. The palate shows Meyer lemon, juicy white peach, tangerine, rich bourbon vanilla cream, honeydew, anjou pear, candied orange, roasted hazelnuts, honey-coated green apple, with high yet perfectly integrated acidity as well as notes of grapefruit pith, white pepper and butterscotch on a seemingly endless and elegant, mouth-filling finish. Truly exceptional, this decadent, supremely classy and complex wine competes with Chateau La Tour Blanche 2014 as the best kosher Sauternes ever made. 13.5% Abv. Approachable and extremely enjoyable now but best 2028-2055, possibly longer. 96-97

The 2018 UGCB tasting Amsterdam 6/21/2021 (Amsterdam, Amstel Boathouse): Nice, but not distinctive, maybe time will help this wine.
