This is a new world Chateauneuf - with all essential indigents. But too much of everything - the wine is like an over-motivated sportsman, with a lot of muscles who does not know to control his power. Nose: of ripe cherry/plum jam, spice and Maggi seasoning sauce (or soy sauce). On the palate spicy, powerful, notes of Maggi and licorice. Long finish - I wish it would have been shorter.

Pleasant wine; never had a "new world" Chateauneuf before, and this seems more approachable than a true Rhone (meaning more fruit in the nose and especially on the palate). The wine seemed to open up quite a bit after about an hour, so while I didn't bother to decant this, it might benefit from doing so. Good complexity, long finish. A nice, if unremarkable, wine.

3/26/2014 - MC2 Wines Does not like this wine:
Either well past its useful life or a defective bottle. Undrinkable.

5/6/2012 - Eric Guido Does not like this wine: 75 Points
The nose was incredibly sweet yet dank with overripe, almost decaying fruit and cinnamon. Acid and alcohol dominated the palate with pruned fruits.
