Pencil shavings dark blue fruit lively tannins would suggest this still has plenty left in the tank. Overall a nice bdx. Some hints of green on day one and gone on day two. Won’t drink another bottle for at least 5 years to see where this goes. Nice showing.

Wonderful. Tobacco, menthol, pencil lead, wet leaves. Just the right amount of fruit to balance it. Soft tannins at this point. Decent finish. 94 points.

This is really really good and just another confirmation of why I enjoy wine and especially mature Bordeaux so much!
It needed 2.5 hours decant before it became balanced and harmonized. Violet flowers, mint, herbes, Black fruit, smoke, plum, Tobacco is filling the bouquet and palate… love it and I have 3 more.

So so good! Similar to my tasting note from last November, this is fully mature and hitting on all cylinders. My only regret is that this was my last bottle of 1998 Pape Clement

(Pape-Clement) This wine was so overextracted and bitter that quite simply put, Michel Rolland raped the extract out of these grapes to the point of no return. These grapes were forced to give it up, and all of it up, as every single bit of extract was sucked out these grapes and it is dead or to keep the metaphor going, severely emotionally damaged. A shame as this wine showed very well five years ago. It was not an enjoyable beverage at all and I see the wine going nowhere. It was dark black and bitter with mild aromatic notes like tobacco that one would commonly associate with Pessac. A shame. Why does Michel Rolland have to mess with this estate? The were making perfectly fine wine in vintages like 1961. A shame as the material was probably good as 1998 was excellent in Graves/Pessac-Leognan.

Tasted blind. Smokey, lots of graphite and black fruit. Velvety texture and fine dry tannins. Long and gripping.
