If tasted blind, pretty sure I would have said Burgundy. Restrained red fruit, mineral and woody notes. A bit of balsamic at the end. Good balance. Interesting. But not a wine for folks who only really like big cabs. Drink soon-ish.

Just fabulous, as it should be. There is bottle variation with Lopez de Heredia, which is disappointing given that when the wines are on point they are some of the very best of Spain. Beautiful roasted and toasted notes, old dry wood, plums, cherries, tobacco, dried blood, iodine, a little chocolate and torrefaction. Tart and savory on the palate, lots of crunchy stone fruits on the finish, as well as delicate sweet fruits and flower and gorgeous savory and earthy stuff. Super complex, super classic, super intense. This is a great example of Tondonia tonight.

PNP. Cork perfect. Color bricking. What a difference time has made. Since last time this has matured. This has dark cherries and a vanilla waxiness with some chocolate notes and some fig. Swishing shows both acid and tannin but both have integrated substantially. There is still evidence of oak in the background but there is better body on the lengthy finish. Seems prime but should hold.

Cellaraid Discovery Box; 5/19/2017-5/26/2021 (Delivered to Home): Medium garnet, with significant browning and fading edges. Stewed meats, sweetish black cherry, moss, purple flowers and a somewhat fungal undergrowth. Rounded tannins, some heightened alcohol, with flavours of red cherry, cocoa, florals, and quite a bit of mushrooms and peat. The dried fruit flavours persists to the back, and finish

(Viña Tondonia Red Reserva) COLOR-dark; NOSE-has a great gaminess; very earthy; this smells like food to me and makes me hungry; PALATE-great coffee and bitter dark chocolate flavors which I love; a mature wine with very different nuances; very complex; this may not be for everyone as it is not big, fruit forward wine; GV-No Score

ESTG does Rioja (West Seattle, WA, USA): Caramel, more age, some softness, long, much more advanced than the 2006 and 2007.
