  • Very pretty nose, fragrant, rose, cherry and medicinal herb.

On the palate, it is a very Burgundian expression of Nebbiolo. A fragrant and eminently feminine juice, it is very floral with strawberry on a background of spices. Very good balance with acidity which brings tension and freshness. This Barolo certainly does not have the depth or complexity of other more “masculine” 2004s but it plays its part on a completely different register which seems pleasant and above all coherent to me. Beautiful, finely woody and spicy finish which extends over a good length.

Very good Barolo, I liked the style.

  • Disjointed at first but opened beautifully after about an hour in the decanter. Aromas of dusty cherry, cough drop, melted licorice, and savory herbs. Complex and engaging. Black cherry with subtle Christmas spices and menthol on the palette. Grippy and persistent with a medium/long, mouth-cleaning finish. Can't imagine this improving but it's in a great spot and will hold here for a while. Very fine.

  • Fragrant, light, and exceptionally fresh. Light red, clear. Highly perfumed. Strawberry. Superb balance. Very little tertiary development.

  • Last bottle, at Ernest. Good richness and red fruited depth, but lacking some of the engaging complexity of other 2004s I’ve had. Also a little bit of alcohol on the nose.

  • Youthful looking dark ruby with hints of lightening around the edges. A beautiful nose shows inviting aromas of dried roses and bright red fruits, lifted sandalwood. A refined, silky palate follows through with layers of floral and wood spice perfumed sweet red fruits, good acidity, ripe and fully resolved tannins and a long finish. Excellent showing for this wine.
