NSG night at Duomo: This was a refreshing change and noticeably different from other bottles - which led me to this was a more traditional and rustic NSG based producer. Alluring bouquet of plums, bayberries, dark berries with a kiss of oak spice. On the palate, this showed ridiculously youthful - rich yet clean and smooth with fantastic fruit concentration. Gorgeous showing with balance and silky tannins.
This was bought in 95 and laid to rest in bossman's cellar ever since. Franky, with this level of provenance, I would not be surprised if this lasted this way for another 5 to 10 years. The only thing even remotely 1993 about this was the higher acid profile to which I thought this was 07 or 08!

This bottle, at least, may have been a little better a few years ago, an experience I'm beginning to have with some 1993s, but not all. Dark fruits, smooth texture typical of Cailles, medium-weight, some spice in the nose. Good length. Cellared since original release.

Still quite dark in color with only a little bit of bricking around the edge. Amazingly young in fruit development, but round with Cailles richness and smoothness on palate. Also salinity which was much more unusual in this era than it is now. Excellent for drinking now, but still a long life ahead. Cellared since original release.

Requires air, was best 5 hours in. This bottle seemed just slightly more muted than previous one and started out quite astringent, although that faded with air.

This took a little time to open up. The nose oozes sex - exotic and toe-curling with marzipan, sweet fruit, maraschino cherry, game and saline. Some well integrated oak - vanilla. There's a tropical fruit aroma in the background that adds to the depth (3-D) and complexity. I've seen this combo before in Chevillon wines and I'm starting to get the hang for the house style. The Palate is open and oozing - beautiful fruit and spice, marzipan, dark red berries, black cherry, Banana - exotic and intense. Gripping. Builds - almost heavy as finish approaches, some oak, but just great. Such wonderful mouthfeel and flavors, great intensity while vibrant and lively. Probably approaching peak but not quite there yet - maybe 5 yrs more and then a long long plateau. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5-5.5/6, Finish - 5-5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17-18/20. (18-18.5/20 potential).
