This holds out nicely and displays typical St Julien, and typical Beychevelle profile of allspice sous bois leafiness and cloves on fainted berry notes, nicely melted tannins. Though a bit reigned in by the vintage, it remains not fully expressive and quite hard, not unpleasant, just austere, some smokiness maybe, but certainly some persistent greenness. Nice to see how Beychevelle is still a quality wine even in smaller years like 2004.

Beycheville has been a favorite for decades. Mostly, it was the first "real" wine I could afford... Moreover, I really liked the label! What 20 yo gentleman wouldn't like to set sail to save a damsel in distress? And with a few bottles of this for the right moments?
Alas, I've sipped this wine many times and this vintage aligns with Robert Parker's commentary of his the chateau had turned itself around, producing consistency and ever alluring wine.
From Parker's Wine Advocate, and Parker's review himself back in 2006 and in 2007, I have left this to the final drink date of his parameter estimate.
TBC

Tried along side the 79, 83, and 15. 79 was the best of the night with this being close second behind it. This wine is currently at its peak and could go a few more years before declining. Wine is well integrated and has smooth tannins. Excellent flavor to it.

Decanted for an hour. This at its peak now, elegant cassis, pencil shavings, quite austere on its own, but with fruit coming through with food. Very nice!
