Classic reddish orange color of a mature Nebbiolo. Explosive complex bouquet with way more that just tar and roses. Very difficult to describe but keeps pulling you back for another sniff. The palate is equally as compelling. So smooth and balanced with totally resolved tannins. A real spice box with plenty of tertiary flavors including wood notes and mushrooms. Fabulous and a real wow wine. Traditional style Barolo at its best.

The '90 Vietti Rocche is showing beautifully tonight. The bouquet was gorgeous and intense, with black cherry, mint, tobacco, sweet spice, dried flowers, and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, I found silky textures with a kick of acidity adding bite, while crunchy tannin added grip. Tart black cherry, dried citrus, wild herbs, and intense minerality saturated the senses. It finished fresh with biting acids and tannin, but oh so good and drinking wonderfully.

The 1990 Rocche displayed a layered, dark and sensual bouquet of dried red fruit, plum, exotic spices, potpourri, gravelly soil and hints of minerals. On the palate, I found a perfectly resolved Barolo with a total drink-me-now personality, showing pure-finessed textures with dark, red fruits, beautiful inner floral tones, mineral and earth. The finish seemed to go on forever with notes of dried berry, spice and earthy minerals. I could have sat with this glass all night.

Sadly madeirized. Substituted a 2000 Vietti Barbaresco, which was fabulous.
