  • Drank at home over 2 hours
The wine shows bright yellow color
The wine shows medium to high intensity in the nose, first with a lot of rubber notes (which I'm not fond of) that went away with the second glass, to give more space for the ripe lemon, peach, apricot, mango and pineapple fruit to grow. With more time and air, the fruit gets riper with syrup and a few chestnut notes
In the palate , the wine is very smooth and silky, offering the same flavour profile. Combine this with a rather lower acidity than expected (obviously due to the extreme heat in 2003), the wine feels almost off dry. Of course, this does not mean that this beauty is cloying or boring. This is a finely aged Riesling with a pretty life ahead of it. But maybe one should probably keep this in mind, when trying to find a pairing.
    Outstanding quality and value.

  • Looks like this is my last bottle: a deeper golden color but nose and palate identical to note of 14 months ago. Amazing consistency, balance and overall quality.

  • I’ve had several bottles of this over the years and it seems younger and more “in your face” assertive each time. I defer to Xavier94’s note (with whom this was shared). Remains amazing for the brutal hot vintage!

  • Unapologetic in its delivery; very assertive flavors; chamomile, honey, lemon oils, ginger, ripe peaches that introduce very weighty, rich and complex flavors in the mouth. Great mid palate creaminess along side appropriate acidity (even in this vintage). The bit of warmth on the finish may not be everyone’s style but this is undeniably great in my estimation. Not quite the class of the FX Pichler Kellerberg ‘07 tasted a handful of years back but “wow” on this.

  • A much better showing this time. Medium golden color; very dry nose (would have guessed Alsatian), spicy; baked spiced pear, orchard fruit; perky acidity. The tone of austerity makes me think of sauvignon blanc though there are few real similarities (if that makes sense). For me, I can see how this would go well with Austrian cuisine in much the same way we feel more comfortable grabbing a bottle of Italian wine to go with Italian food.
