The 09 was not one of the better vintages for the Yattarna. Despite Penfolds’ marketing propaganda, the 09 lacks flavours and depth compared to the 08 or 10. Having said this, it is a fine and well made wine. Where it lets the side down was the lack of complexity and depth or intensity of flavours. Yattarna is up there with the world’s best but not this time. Drink now or 2+ years.

What a joy to not have to worry about premix when unscrewing the cap. From magnum. Fresh, saline and hint of Brittany butter. Fantastic wine that is Meursault like, rounded and elegant with underlying energy. Will last another 5 years easily and develop further.

From magnum. Very expressive nose - lots of exotic and ripe yellow stone fruit notes, flowers. Creamy, open, generous and pretty. On the palate again generous fruit, but much more restrained and elegant. Wonderful balance - fresh, vibrant, lively. Persistent and line ring finish. Excellent. 92-94

Surprised how this is un-oaked with cool climate characteristics. Not the typical new world chard. Unfortunately, does not possess the minerality / acidity that Burgundy chard around the same price point has. Well made wine but lacks excitement.

Penfolds wine tasting (Watson's, Hong Kong): 40% new french oak. This is Bin 144, I think referring to the number of trials to create it. They're looking for longevity. Lots of smoke - wood still showing. Lemon pie with beeswax. Good acid backbone but not very intense.
