This is remarkable for a wine entering its 65th year, and still robust with no signs of over age. Admittedly, it is not one of the trophy wines, but it really delivers, and unbelievably, still needs an hour in the decanter to blow off some of the rough edges. The nose is its best feature and is deeply aromatic with plum, cherry, chocolate, and old leather. With sufficient air the palate calms down and delivers great balance and depth. It does not have the silky mouthfeel of the greatest aged Bordeaux, with the tannin a little intrusive end palate and on the finish. That said, it is a privilege to drink a wine this old, and still so approachable.

First of 3 bottles. Low shoulder fill, cork in decent condition. Very deep color, almost opaque but not cloudy. Ripe aromatics with fruit, fruit alcohol. Amazing texture: rich without being cloying. Enough acidity to float it all. Very long, rich finish. Very much a hedonistic wine. No hurry to drink.

For 50th birthday. Amazing. So big and rich. Never faded. Drank over an hour. Went to Fireworks display, and still singing two hours later. Bought from Premier Cru 5-6 years ago for $120- very special. Wow.
