Pomerol night (Chicago, IL): This bottle was in quite good condition despite the relatively lower fill. Oddly fruity for a wine with this amount of age; this probably was made from fairly ripe fruit, but time has dried out a lot of this wine. Shows a little tinny and metallic as some older wines are wont to do, but it's not an undrinkable wine either.

Not the best bottle with a high shoulder fill and perhaps the most disgusting cork I have seen: covered all around with a thick, brown liquid, some sort of combination of wine and disintegrating cork. Started with a pretty bad off smell, thought about pouring out but since it was showing a healthy and rather dark garnet color, closed the bottle with a neutral stopper and put into fridge. “Forgot” the bottle for four days in the fridge, and was surprised how solid this was still showing when taking a sip then. Dark garnet toward a transparent rim, no browning, still a slight off smell with some forrest floor overshadowing the nose, on the palate still good fruit concentration and a solid structure with medium (-) tannins. Short finish. Not charming at all, nor is this particularly aromatic or complex, but a robust, traditional Bdx still holding up well at age 50, and I don’t see this fading in the next 10 years. Bottles in better shape should show even better. 88 for this one

Way past drink-ability stage. Cork was still intact, so I believe this bottle was in fine condition and cellared well, but the wine is just not enjoyable to drink anymore.

The fill was only HS, but the wine was not tired. Excellent balance and elegance.
