  • Low to mid shoulder fill. Initially super funky and dirty, but it blew off after an hour with a bit of port, herbs, funk, iron and blood. Palate was structured but undoubtedly over the peak with some plum and chinese medicine. The acidity was still there despite faded fruit.

  • Expressive nose of ripe black and red cherries, cigar box, sandalwood, tobacco ... in the mouth, acidity is quite dominant with red berries, integrated tannins, a hint of sweetness at the finish to balance the high acids... not really a pleasure wine, but still holding pretty well at 60 years of age!!

  • An absolute privelege. That would be the best comment on the wine, but down to details. The wine was blind, not decanted (which was a very good decision) and easily the best wine of the night. While we could tell it was aged, it's fullness in teh palatte led us to the 1970's. Though Cos actually came into the conversation, I actually leant towards Margaux, because of the fruit. I didn't pick up that sense of earth and leather that you often get in Cos. It would be hard to say that this wine was past it's best, because it was still in such good condition it showed how great the wine can be, and therefore scores points on that, not just the blind palette and nose. Once again we see how age can improve and enhance a wine immensely (pity it doesn't happen with us :-))
