This bottle was hedonistic and intensely tropical, and while it didn’t have quite the acidity to balance the ripeness, it was incredibly pleasurable with food and on its own. Fantastic.

After a corked 1998 WS Auslese I quickly grabbed this as a replacement. It needed some air, but then who doesn’t after more than twenty years trapped in a bottle. With about an hour of air it showed all the tropical and ripe peach fruit I was expecting, with only a little bit of brown sugar glaze from age. Not a bottle for acid fanatics, but there’s a serenity and grace to the wine, a beauty. It’s quite compelling, and very, very Prüm.

Very youthful still although it’s finally lost most of its spritz. Pineapple, lemon cream, lychee and just a little bit of TDN coming in. This has been in the same place for several years and is aging at a glacial pace.

Young, relatively undeveloped, and a bit spritzy. It’s delicious now and should continue to age well although there seems to be a bit of acid missing so will need to check in every so often.
