sublime. soft leather, orange peel, iron, flowers, very complex. fully resolved palate, silky tannin, red fruits, tertiary notes. long finish. in a perfect spot, wine doesn't get much better than this.

Unfortunately I think this bottle was slightly OTH. Did not have the signature Bartolo perfume. Even after giving is 7 hours of air it never quite came around. The wine did open up and get better over the 7 hours but just never quite got there. A tease of soy, umami, leather, saddle and dark fruits. Slightly tart on the finish and lacking complexity you expect for this wine.

Utterly amazing bottle. Light ruby color. Balsamic, faint tar and leather. Popped and poured this time as it was ready to go out of the bottle. Great fun at Charlie Bird - thanks Robert!

Cork was in perfect shape considering the age. Bottom eighth of the bottle was thick sediment as expected, the wine itself was quite pale and not terribly bricked. Lots of VA on the nose initially, this dissipated with air. I tried this at various stages after opening and it never really blossomed, frankly a little tired at this stage relative to other baroli of this same vintage from lesser producers that I've tried. It was interesting, drinkable and woke up a bit when paired with wild mushrooms.

(Cantina Mascarello Barolo) Bricking light medium red color with pale meniscus; mature mushroom, lamb jus and mineral nose; tasty, mature, dried red fruit and incense palate; medium-plus finish 94+ pts.

Quite minerally and stone driven. Still showing life but very monotone. Magnum bottle
