Sauternes Chinese Banquet Dinner: Deep golden color. Medium weight in the line up but rich. Fantastic acidity supports spicy tropical fruit, apple, and a strong squirt of citrus. Delicious wine that I preferred to the 1989 d'Yquem next to it. In no danger of imminent decline.

All Sauternes, All Night (R & G Lounge, SF): Richer than the '01 de Fargues, a bit sweeter, and could use a touch more acid. Still there's a lovely elegance and balance here - seems to be a common theme with all the de Fargues. Grapefruit peel, grapefruit confit, some nutty toffee/caramel, and less complex than the '89s tonight. Again, I feel this wine would show better on its own (than say after '89 Yquem).

All-sauternes dinner; 12/2/2023-12/3/2023 (R&G Lounge, San Francisco): Golden-orange; aromatic, grapefruit citrus, orange; palate is medium bodied, lovely balance, grapefruit pith, orange marmalade; finish is long. Really lovely, not the most complex but very classic. If this was the only wine served all night, I would have been happy. 93

I’ve had this last 6 months ago and it held up well (rated 94pts) in an all 1990 Sauternes lineup, with only Yquem being in another sphere. This bottle was right up there, although it didn’t show all the tertiary malty, coffee and tea aromas and hence was less complex. The aromatic precision, the good acidity to keep it fresh and light are there. Overall a good Sauternes that should add more complexity with more time in the cellar.
TN: Dark amber color and some first hints of leaves shining through, complementing the dried fruit notes of apricots and quince with fresher citrus notes to balance it. Not much tertiary notes yet. Fine, bright acidity, well-integrated and cutting through the sweetness of the hot year.
Decanting: Needed a bit of air to open up. Decanted for roughly 1 hour which seemed fine.

(Chateau de Fargues) #1; (known as a perfect vintage); COLOR-amber; apricot; NOSE-great petrol action; some interesting dried apricots; orange blossom come to mind; little funkiness toward the end (that petrol/alcohol component); TASTE-very pretty apricot toward the end; finishes w/ a burnt penny component; butterscotch; caramel; this wine is exceptional & extraordinary; very youthful (can be put away for another 20-30 years); WS-94; GV-93+

Abricots, pêches. Bouche avec une belle acidité et fraîcheur, tout en finesse et équilibre, un délice.
