NobleRottersSydney - Cabernet & blends (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 12.9%} [Gordon] This was double-decanted two hours prior but implied a threat of cork taint. It certainly didn’t have the purity of the 2004, but it wasn’t obviously ruined either. Hard to call. A bit scalped at worst. Cedar and earth. Low-key palate with some leafy cabernet fruit, currants, berries, but without much depth or finish (short/medium at best). Low/medium powdery tannins, medium acid. Meh. Would have loved to see a diam-sealed version alongside to prove the point.

This is the second 2012 Quintet I have drunk and I have been a tad underwhelmed. It’s good but not great certainly nothing on my first, a 2010. I will wait at least 5 years before I try another bottle.

Drunk in a park out of small plastic cups, so wasn't able to get the most out of this wine aromatically - classic Bordeaux blend notes, all in order and nothing out of place. On the palate, powerful and tightly wound core of fruit, yet without weight, fine-boned tannins, good acid draw, and good length. Very good now, however leave for another 5-10 years to allow for tertiary development.

At Langtons Classification VII Tasting Melbourne 5 September. It was great of the winery to bring a vintage to try with the 2015. This was not the vintage, or the bottle, to bring to impress! Mushroom and barnyard interfering with some not very well defined fruit. The palate was dull and with some too savoury flavour to be pleasant. I believe I tasted this at the annual winery release day and thought likewise. I didn't buy it then and I'm now glad, at least for safety, I don't have this vintage in the cellar. However the 10, 13, 14 are excellent for my palate.

Mount Mary New Release Tasting: Blood and iron, charcoal, tobacco and a lift from violet and rose floral notes. Medium bodied fruit is controlled by very good structure, this has more to give but it feels quite coiled up right now and not yet ready to be let loose. Should be impressive with further age.
