  • remarkable youthful. Decanted 1h prior to tasting. Dominant note at the forefront was of stewed plums, but complexity came through on the rest of the palate. This demonstrates the class and longevity of this wine.

  • Wanted to see what all the fuss was about!
Nose; really complex but sweet and perfumed. Black fruit, herb, tobacco, spice, a little barnyard, violets and cassis.
Palate beautifully rounded and complex. Soft tannins, lovelly length and balance. Pure velvet. The blending of up to 5 different red grape varieties in varying combinations, over so many years, consistently producing wines of the highest echelon is quite an achievement. I would have loved to try this on release.
Beautiful mature wine. Elegance in a glass......but with substance and depth.
I think at it's peak but will hold. Day 2, still lovely, quite fresh.
    94-95pts.

  • This just keeps getting better, so beautifully elegant, pristine and balanced. So much nuance and detail in a medium weight frame, crunchy red berries, a little spice, tobacco leaf, such slick oak as well. Smooth as silk on the palate, finest of velvet tannins, just gorgeous.

Nose is superb - mint and blackcurrant and forest fruit.
Tannins are superbly silky and superb length. There is acidity that requires food - but with smoked venison and a rib eye steak this was elegant.
Well done Dr John Middleton - spot on.
