An old favourite from another time ! This opened very well with a mid-depth cherry red colour and a fine bouquet of dark cherry, garnet plum, tobacco, cedar and some floral notes. The palate is medium weight with delicious fruit characters merging seamlessly into savoury notes of tobacco, cedar and black olives all backed by a cashmere line of very fine tannins. There is a long aftertaste and a sense of great poise. A lovely bottle that sums up the best of this style from Mt Mary.

Nose: intense peppercorn, brooding fruit still evident, quite lively for 30 years Palate: beautiful, so well balanced. Has some port/prune notes on the end but still feels really alive Colour: lighter than it's younger counterparts, definitely lost a bit of its weight, quite a bit of brick Length is forever, 2 minutes +

Good ruby colour, no bricking. Ripe mixed fruits, a little tobacco leaf and dark spice. Smooth, nicely developed and integrated, red and black berries, lightly spiced, beautiful cedary complexity, light weight but good flavour intensity. Long clean smooth finish. Superb for its age. How king will it keep going?

Mount Mary Cabernet vs Penfolds 707: Cinnamon, liquorice, aniseed, rhubarb and cherry aromas on the nose. A mature, structured palate with components well integrated at this stage and the fruit holding up well. This bottle has reached its peak but I think it would have held its plateau for a number more years.

V64 Wine night (Guildford, Perth, WA): This wine was the disappointment of the flight to me. I enjoyed it very much but few of the members picked it as a really top class wine. It had crimson purple colour, with typical age effects on the rim. The nose was slightly earthy and the palate was well structured, with leafy notes, berry, vanilla and more earthy flavours. The structure was sound and the flavours very well integrated with soft tannins still evident. Everybody loved the wine but they all preferred one or other in the flight.
