Another great dinner with Jon: Alluring nose with autumn leaves, graphite, spice, earth, blackcurrant and light herbs. Has great depth on the palate, there is texture and really fine and precise acidity that drives the fruit along. Interesting in all aspects, this was showing brilliantly well.

Night One of Two Big Sydney Extravaganzas (Sydney, Australia): A tremendous bottle, showing many parallels to Bordeaux but better understood (and enjoyed) as a thing of its own. Smoke, pencil lead, coffee and minerals, and ample tomato leaf evidence of the Cab Franc among the "Cabernets" noted on the label.

NobleRottersSydney - Langtons Classification (Darling Mills, Glebe): Mid brick red. Pongy, developed, cedary nose. Very secondary, with gently aged Bordeaux-like cedar/cassis fruit notes. There’s a pointed, sharply-defined quality to the wine – it’s very different to the lavish South Australians. Great structure down the palate, although the finish doesn’t last much past medium length. Seems to grow in stature with food – as Dr Middleton intends, no doubt. Fine wine, which may hold? I dunno…

ORANGE ON THE EDGE. LICORICE, CHOCOLATE, PEPPER, SPICE, AND DEEP BERRY FRUIT IN THE NOSE. FLAVOR LIKE THE NOSE WITH DEEP BERRY FRUIT. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH.

Excellent old cabernets, with length and power, and nice touch of sourness.
