Incredible the most unique BB blend from Aussie yet, also the palest and lightest BB ever tasted with 12.5% abv. Made from a blend of 50% CS, 25% Merlot, 15% CF, 5% Malbec and 5% PV, aged for 22 months in FR oak, 30% new barrels. Intense unique and complex aroma of gunpowder, raspberries, smoke, plums, earth, dried nettle, sweet tobacco, sweet spices. Medium body, thin, lean and braced with elegance, touch of pleasant tension, herbal and smoky red fruit flavours, vibrant medium+ acidity, medium refined tannins.

Phil's impromptu tasting fun (Phil's place, Putney, Sydney): From Coravin. Red and black fruits, brambles, earth, leather, a little cream, sweet spice, a sense of ripeness, fruit sweet and pretty. Juicy, fruit sweet on the palate as well, plenty of grainy tannic burr, leathery, earthy, Hmm. Interesting

Is this the greatest Australian wine that I have tasted?
I've had Grange, I've had Hill of Grace, yet its the more unheralded Mount Mary that has always impressed me thebmost from down under.
This was served blind and we were all convinced it was exceptionally high end bordeaux. The nose is perfectly aged and reminded me of many a fine left bank wine from the 80s. Such balance on the palate and a long finish. At 12.5% this is elegant and delicate.
What a wine. I've had the 1994 and the 2015, and I'm convinced they are making some of the best wine in Australia.
NobleRottersSydney - Mount Mary (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 12.5%} Some bricking to the garnet red here; the first Quintet that’s looked truly aged in any way. A touch malty on the nose, a little bit of sharpness. A bit finer, perhaps bonier than the last couple of bottles. You know how a supermodel flirts with anorexia but survives? A hint of that, only a little. Mature blackcurrant fruit on the palate is leavened with a little strawberry, but still with balancing acidity. Medium weight, medium chalky tannins. The same even plate we’ve seen throughout the night. I don’t see any improvement left here, but holding another five years or so won’t hurt.

Return to Aus; 6/23/2019-7/5/2019 (Adelaide, South Australia wine regions, Tassie, Yarra, etc.): This is definitely a nice old school style producer of Bordeaux wines. For the price not a bad deal (esp as Bordeaux quite expensive on Aussie wine lists). This felt perhaps a touch tired at this point. Bit less expressive. Bit more secondary focused. But still a decent wine and I liked that it was more subtle in style.
