La Combe d'Orveau in Chambolle borders the Vosne Romanee grand cru crus of Echezeaux as well as the top of clos de vougeot and the Vosne 1er cru en Orveaux as well as les Petits Musigny (a parcel classified as Musigny grand cru in 1990's which is of lesser quality than the original Musigny parcels). It is a lesser known terroir, but really a sleeping beauty and one of my favorite in Chambolle as global warming is changing the game. As its name implies, it is a canyon separating vosnes and chambolle slopes and takes the north cold wind which tends to provide strict but refined wines...I do not know exactly where is Grivot's plot and if anyone knows I am curious..As usual with Grivot, there is an interesting spicy and stemmy nose, quite restrained and cool, as well as slightly reduced which went away after decant. The mouth is strict and tight, with good density, with an interesting bitter red cherry after taste, and good length for a village level. 1er cru quality here. After 3 hours of decant it started to sing and reveal more of its contained power. It does not have a satin mouthfeel of warmer years, 2013 was a cold year without enough sugar in the berries, stems were not mature and glycerol levels were low, but the wine is well made for the vintage, and it will improve with more cellar time and gain more perfume with another 3 to 5 years in bottle. In short, this should be sought after in warmer vintages, but is nevertheless excellent.

Scored a cheap enough case of this to make it a regular pour. Never disappoints, always expressive and accessible despite having the solidity and robustness of the Grivot house style. Some CO2 needs to be flattened out with a shake or decant. Aromatically shows a bit of pencil shavings from the barrels along with a more enticing spice mix that betrays its proximity to the Vosne border and a gravelly base. Red-berry fruits still have a bold intensity not dulled by the last few years in bottle.

This is far too young still. Needs plenty of time to unwind. I has the components to be good. Day one was very tight with strong acid, pure fruit and not much else. Over 90 minutes started to open up a little bit. Better on day 2. Needs to put on weight. Will try again in 2022+.

At home not decanted with pate very nice but could use a few more years Next day left over with blackened ribeye not very good as the steak had some hot spices

Took to silver palace (Chinese)
15-20 min decant
A bit to tart... maybe tannic. Good fruit
Should have decanted for longer period of time
