  • An amazing intense Pinot Noir - the best Charmes-Chambertin I ever had! Very complex, elegant and precise fruit structure, stunning depth and an incredible elegant overall balance. Tannins are velvety and already nicely integrated. It’s fruit forward now, but so sexy! Sure, it’s young but already absolutely gorgeous! Drink now or in 20 years, whatever you prefer, this is fantastic and will age gracefully! (IG)

  • Giuseppe's (Scottsdale, AZ): The first word I wrote in my notes was “fantastic.” Black fruited at first pass, with deep, almost rich, dark red cherry fruit washing up behind the wall of earthy black raspberry, red and black cherry, and tilled soil flavors. The finish is ethereal, with a perfect balance of acid and tension with ripe fruit and earth. Clean, polished, and classy, while also injecting terroir elements that add character and layered complexity.

You can hold and wait your 20 years or whatever if that’s your jam, but smart money is on running to the closet and grabbing your trusty shimmering mahogany velvet smoking jacket and busting the corks on these bottles now. Meander out to the aft deck of your Grecian megayacht and revel in the splendorous view of the Mykonos coastline whilst sipping your Bachelet with your gaggle of Vanderbilt socialites. “Oh Alexia, be a dear; bop over here and hand me my Chopard De Rigos so we can snap more duckface selfies of us in the infinity pool…”

  • Another Grand Tasting in Arizona! (Guiseppe's in Scottsdale): Probably the best Burgundy/Pinot I have tasted. This is a WOWer wine! Even at this young age, it is impeccably balanced and elegant. Nice perfumed nose of purple flowers and cherry pie. Palate is as equally stunning with silky, velvety tannins, plenty of red fruit, cherry bark and cocoa notes, coupled with candied violets and bramble, all wrapped in cream. Absolutely stunning (at least for my palate!) 97 now, and I can't even imaging how good this will be with a little more age! I don't know if I should love or hate Ryan for bringing this!

Side note: I kept going back to this wine throughout the evening, and it just kept evolving and getting better and better throughout the evening!

  • From barrel. I really love this producer but am not always a fan of this site generally - this is different. Very different. Wow - such finesse and gorgeously ripe tannins combined with massive density and perfect balance. I could drink this all day right now. In fact, I can't remember many Chambertin's ever being this good - certainly without the finesse and massive violet aromas this shows. 97pts easily. Looks like only 5 barrels produced in 2016 so it will be rare, allocated and expensive. Fingers crossed...
