Second bottle out of a case, like the first medium red, color is brick red, thin and quite transparent, fruit is still reasonably fresh with notes of strawberry and currants, but no structure or depth to it, tannins mostly gone, pleasant and not spoiled but acids overwhelm what's left of the fruit. Very disappointing for Bachelet.

This wine is just coming out of a "sleep" stage. It needs an hour out of the bottle and opens to a great bouquet and a rich, full mouth and finish. All of the '97 Burgundy I have is getting better and better.

Burgundy Dinner at Mike's (Wellington): Ruby, glossy and bright. Very earthy on the nose, with some fruit, spice and gamey notes. On palate, moderate intensity of flavours, moderately acidic, a little short and simple compared to others. Did not improve with time in glass.

(Bachelet Denis Charmes-Chambertin) The nose is understated, wide and fresh. The palate is likewise impressively fresh (for 97) and shows quite some grainy tannin. Nothing is pushed but this is very impressive - I’d buy some!
