That was my wine of the night! 1977 Luigi Ferrando, what a rare treat! Was actually my first time trying wine from Carema, very impressed. There seem to be only 20 producers in Carema (correct me if i am wrong), Luigi Ferrando is definitely the most renowned one. I was surprised how lively the wine was, very fragrant on the nose, palate rose petal, black tea leaves, soft leather, and actually with good acidity and silky tannin (probably due to the location, high altitute just below Alps). The wine stayed firm throughout the night, got more black truffles and more weight after opening three hours (showing the Nebbiolo grape characters), I think it actually can last another few years!
