  • Popped and poured; enjoyed over two days. Best on Day 1 as it started to lose balance on Day 2. As such, these notes describe Day 1. The 2014 “Etichetta Bianca” pours a pale, slightly hazy garnet color with a translucent core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of bright, funky red fruits: cherries, raspberries, strawberries, with red flowers, leather, mushroom and a pleasant whiff of barnyard. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish long and full of zippy, tangy fruit. This is hitting right and showing remarkable character. Drink now.

  • Bought these 5 years ago and they have been patiently waiting for me to pick one. Seemed like the right time, and the wine is showing quite beautifully now. Appearance is crystal clear, beautiful sharp cherry, looks like what it is - a ten-year old nebbiolo with pretty cherry/ colors and light bricking. The nose is wonderful - high-toned cherry and strawberry with soft menthol and red floral notes. Second day the aromatics were even more beautiful. The wine is soft in the mouth all the way to the finish where it has a minor explosion of acidic cherry and strawberry flavor. There is a light tar note that runs from initial attack to swallow. Soft, fine tannin carries a lengthy finish. This wine is good and on second day beautiful! Simply wonderful expression of nebbiolo. I’ll go through remaining bottles over the next couple years. It’s exceptional now and I would hate to miss this opportunity waiting for development that may never happen. Right now the wine has some maturity but remains playful. A reminder of just how good nebbiolo can be.

  • Off the wine list at Farra. I’ve started buying these wines and was interested to try one. There is something about high elevation nebbiolo that is quite compelling. Very fresh and bright. Almost tangy fruit. I was a bit concerned with the pairings but this held up across dishes with oysters and yuzu and just showed different aspects. Very enjoyable. I think good with some age and prob good with a ton of age but drinkable youngish too.

  • Nose features mushroom and loam components with the fruit. Bright and food friendly. Fruit
Is riper than expected but acid keeps things moving. Tannins have softened reasonably enough and this is in drinking window, though I expect considerable further development.

  • I really like this wine; I've yet to have a poor bottle from Ferrando and that includes a '64 had a few years ago; this '14 is lovely with great nebbiolo typicity, the freshness and lift of Carema, excellent balance and lovely mineral tinged finish. No rush as this will drink well for years, but it's already good.
