This was so great. (My wife insisted it should be 100.) Still fresh and bright at this age. Clearly in the barolo level class even though it is an alta Piemonte nebbiolo. Perfectly blended and balanced -- nothing out of place, with plenty of individuality. A great perfumed nose of light tar and roses that just never stops. The palate is rich and intense (for a somewhat feminine top-level-nebbiolo wine), with earth, minerality, dark berries, tobacco. Each sip just carries on and on. Acidity is integrated and is behind all the flavors. Still some moderate tannins that pop out at the end and give it an extra kick. I've now finished my case, but anyone out there should probably pull them out and enjoy, since it is at the top of its game!

Decant to remove sediment. Needed time to open up. Showed lovely tobacco and black fruit on the nose. Palate was smooth and luxurious. Medium plus viscosity. Well integrated tannins. Paired wonderfully with tomato braised short ribs.

Seems that bottle from earlier this year, was just slightly not as great. This one is extraordinary for sure. Soft tar and big floral nose and mineral vapors. Palate has more minerality, dark berries, tar, earth, with a good acid. The moderate tannins kick in after a couple of hours open.

Not sure if this has peaked, or just a closed bottle. It was still an outstanding nebbiolo typical of Ferrando, but lacked some of the stellar brightness and depth that the last couple of bottles had.

Very much like last year's bottle (which see the notes). But a bit richer than last year.
