Last bit of the bottle that was opened yesterday. At zoldering amsterdam. First time ever Mascarello, let alone this cridder… warm, soft layer of cherry, raisin, m+ acidity keeping it real, and a little salinity in the finish. Fantastic first experience!!!

Slightly tighter and more nervous aromas with cool cherries, dust grains, and light mushrooms. Good full bodied and fresh wine with this classic old-school touch with more rustic touches of red berries, spices and mushrooms. Good tannin structure and good acidity. Today the little charm is missing, but this can come with time in the Cellar. 92 points.

Sunday Funday (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. From the nose, I picked up some really nice red fruit, eventually coming into focus as tart cherries, as well as a little bit of that tar and roses thing. The palate is a little hollow, and doesn't seem to have much flesh on the bones, finishing with a big dose of acid and some really big tannins. Immediately identified as nebbiolo, but I thought this was a decent Langhe as opposed to the vaunted Monprivato. The lack of ripe fruit here made me guess 2012 or 2014. In hindsight, the received wisdom tends to say that Monprivato tastes dilute when young, but bulks up with age; I'd love to see that latter half come true.

Bu en parallèle avec Elio Grasso Barolo 2014. Les 2 très bons mais le Monprivato est clairement supérieur, plus ample, plus fin.
