  • E&R's Prequal to 25: Nebbiolo: The aromas here are very pretty, all incredibly high toned gummy red fruit. I find it elegant and pretty and rather ethereal. To me, this is typically youthful Monprivato and I love it. Gorgeous palate texture, showing more of that beautiful pure fruit juice... like you freshly squeezed a ripe strawberry and it's just the liquid juice without any pulp. I also find the tannin profile on the palate very elegant. As its held in the mouth though, the wine does smack you a bit with tannins to remind you of its youthful exuberance. Tons of bitter tannin and strong acidity on the finish is the dominant note. This was a polarizing wine for tasters, for some reason... for me I found it beautifully typical and exactly why I love Mascarello Monprivato. Sure, don't drink it today, but how it's showing today tells me everything I need to know about desiring this wine in my cellar.

  • Prelude 25-an E&R Nebbiolo joint (E&R Wines, Portland OR): This just isn't close to ready for primetime. Tight as a drum and has the brutally young Monprivato palate that is a bit thin and watery right now. I would've thought an 18 would be at least somewhat open, but nope. Come back to this in 2033 and given their track record in warm vintages, this will likely be a knee buckler.

  • E&R Prequel 25 - Mostly older nebbiolo (Portland, OR): This had a quite youthful nose of candied fruit jelly, quite the fruit bomb. The palate was better but still felt atypical to me for Monprivato, which I've admittedly never tasted this young. Another taster described the aromatics as "restaurant grape jelly in a white square plastic container" which actually resonated a bit. Strong hold
DP felt this was a typical expression for young Monprivato, which was very surprising to me! Once again I am just not opening these bottles young, and so I lack the pattern recognition.

  • Extraordinarily pretty and aromatic nose: a real sense of delicacy and purity, backed up by a core of energy and concentration. Wild strawberry and rose, orange blossom, mint. Gained depth and a tarry complexity after a time. Very very long finish.
