  • My mom's Bday so wanted to celebrate with a birth-year wine and grabbed this 55 Ruffino. I really had zero expectations with this one but the bottle was in PRISTINE condition, so was cautiously optimistic. Long story short, the wine was truly amazing from the moment I popped the cork (Durand worked flawlessly per usual). Dark red in color with noticeable bricking, and beautiful aromas of roses, leather, and hints of spicy red fruit. Just as good on the palate with more leather, sour cherries, tar, and autumn leaves on the finish. Fully resolved tannins with not a hard edge to be found, and plenty of acidity that has helped keep this shockingly fresh. A real treat and nothing but smiles from my mom....which was exactly what I was hoping for! Life is good!
