Deep straw yellow in color, medium+ intensity on the nose with flint, fire stone, almond, peach, roses, marzipan, blossom. Medium acidity, long finish with a pleasant bitter note. What a fabulous Condrieu! Not as showy as for example La Doriane, but almost restrained (for a Condrieu) and mineral driven
50% of the vines were planted in 1936, the other 50% in the 1960’s. 25% new wood, 75% 2-4 year old

Northern Rhone night: A more typical Condrieu and not as transcendental compared to the ‘08 I tried a couple of years ago. Aromatic with low acidity, honeysuckle; apricot and grapefruit notes dominated rather than citrus fruit. Some warmth and alcohol burn was evident from the vintage.

A private lunch (Restaurant Europa, Amsterdam, NL): Magnum. Strawberry yoghurt, Sam said when it was a at a higher temperature, and I can relate. So fine and delicate but rich and fragrant, exemplary balance between weight (14.5% ABV) and minerally elegance, big but playful and layered, low acidity, velvety texture, flowers and spices and apricot, noticeable back-end heat.

Rare for a white WOTN. Luxurious bouquet and oily texture of elderflower, macadamia nuts and some contrasting leanless to balance. Very complex and engaging. Not fat at all even when drank without food. Impressive length.

Potpourri, salted butter, and crème brûlée. Medium bodied, low acid, and silky with a hit of alcohol on the nose and mid palate.
