Magnificent showing tonight, and it actually beat Rayas of the same year; rich, broad, yet focused with loads of sweet grenache, garrigue and an elegant lightness and minerality. One of the very best wines from this great vintage, I have tasted yet. This will live on, but is ready to drink. (/with PB)
Ripple and Ridonculous Wines (Ripple - Cleveland Park - Washington, DC): Complex red currant fruit mixed in with olive brine, pepper and brothy notes. Bright and spicy palate, fine/dusty tannins, still doing well in terms of structure. Lots of complexity in here in addition to the delicious tart red fruit: moss, pickle, smoke, olives, leather. Great showing from a magnum, this bottle had plenty of time ahead.
Light ruby. After a brief burst of raspberry fruit, this was dominated by herbaceous tones and flavors. This is typical of most of my recent bottles that have suggested that the hallmark Charvin fruit has really faded. Not a bad Chateauneuf at all, but the bright fruit I so cherish in this producer's wines is well past its best and the overall impression is of a dried out wine.
