Refined, elegant, classy, with rose hip syrup flavours (although not syrupy) and garrigue strawberries, together with herbs and spices. Very good indeed.

A big wine – certainly not as finessed as higher end offerings but suitably complex and tasty nonetheless! This bottle is in a great drinking window at the moment, showcasing both full fruit and ample tertiary characteristics. Immediately bold on the nose with ripe raspberry/strawberry, stewed fruit, and vanilla, the wine quickly settled down into a better balance that included forest, iron, and barnyard/mushroom notes. Integration of palate and structure continued through the evening, with further development of red/black cherry, plum, slate/graphite, and leather; tannins and acidity were in excellent harmony with the rest of the wine. Oak (vanilla, cedar, charred wood) did appear throughout, but in a much subtler and unified fashion than the first few sips would have implied – sweet and savoury sundried tomatoes lingered on the finish. The bottle was a treat to drink from start to finish, and though not as deep and beguiling as some, still lived up to expectations and offered no shortage of intrigue/enjoyment. At $76, you’re definitely getting your money’s worth!

Fine, structured, savoury, a little lean. Aniseed, graphite, dried herbs, red plums. Drink or hold. (91 Very good wine)
