Over the hill without being totally gone. A bit thin and with a ripe, bruised apple note and the more typical wet wool type things in the background. Got better not worse with air, though. Not as good as a really strong 83 a couple of years ago.

New Year's Eve (In memory of Charlie Trotter) (Eketahuna, New Zealand): Stewed apple. Very old. Aldehyde. Cinnamon notes. High alcolic finish. Possibly aged too long. Smells varietal. Possibly thinning out and as a result the alcohol is peaking out. May be cracking up slightly. However, in the end, I warmed to it immensely - it is old school heritage that is fading gracefully and is both true to its terroir and varietal.

What a clean, focused enjoyable wine. Cork was saturared almost to the top, cork removed in 2 attempts. Light golden in color. The nose is pretty, balanced, elegant. Has just the right intensity for me. Lemon curd, anise, chalk. Palate is medium intensity, fantastic acidity, lemon citrus, sage. Nose and palate both compliment each other. Long and mouthwatering. This bottle shows slight oxidation only after opening for 3 hours, but Fresh and wonderful in the first 2. Not decanted. Better as it warms in the glass.

Classic mature Sterimberg. Mid-gold. The nose and the first taste still give that "OMG is it meant to taste like this" moment, even for me. Yes it is. Full bodied, with a lovely smooth mouthfeel, and that characteristic marmalade mix of sweet and bitter orange, overlaid with just a hint of sherry. The power is in the finish, which is very long and pleasurable. À point, but surely good for another decade. dg-

La Chapelle verticale (1978-2002) (Bad Ragaz, Switzerland): The nose is really nice, very powerful and quite complex. Nothing special on the palate but a really long finish. Clearly more interesting than the 2000 or 2002 but definitely not my cup of tea.
